Niacin and ALT/AST

... I've been taking slo-niacin (2000mg) over the last 3-4 months. I know it can raise Liver Enzymes. I've been getting my cholesterol tested through a local lab, and I had them check my ALT/AST, but they only did my ALT and it was fine (34, 0-55 is the range). Can I assume my AST is OK? Or is it possible my AST is high but my ALT is fine? My Tri/HDL ratio is now under 2... (0 replies)

... Hi BarbJ, My blood test last week also indicated my triglycerides were high. My doctor told me to think "SUGAR". Things like ice cream, cakes, bread and even alcohol (wine, beer etc..) will raise triglyceride levels. Even though I take 3,000 mg of prescription niacin, 10 mg of pravachol, fish oil capsules, garlic, antioxidants (C, E selenium) My triglycerides were 261.... (27 replies)
