... Hi Mark, I did the conversion so I could understand your results (I'm in the US). First of all, LDL cholesterol is "estimated" using a formula, so although yours is elevated, it's not your "direct" level (might be higher or lower). Triglycerides are your main problem. ... etter hands but I am just concerned that 2,000mg of Niacin will lower my cholesterol to much. But my Doctor advised me that Niacin will boost my HDL and lower my Trig but will have a very minimal impact on my LDL. Thus as my HDL goes up I know my total cholesterol will go up as well. ... ... Hi Yack, thanks very much for those numbers. The following are my numbers a few months ago when I had my yearly exam. I have been taking simvastatin for a few years, and after this latest test, my doctor wanted to INCREASE my cholesterol meds. Do you consider these numbers a reason to increase meds? ... I'm not sure why the Niaspan didn't work. Trilipix is a fibrate yes and it's the only one approved to be used with a statin. It can be a little rough with the muscle pain and cramping on both of those , so you have to watch it. But,it dropped mine from 1700 to 180 in 1.5 months if my home test is right (I hope it is). I just hope I can get off the statin or the other one, I... (30 replies)
