... Got blood work, my doctor told me my total cholesterol is 155, my good cholesterol is 28 but my triglycerides are 424. He said since my triglycerides were so high, they could not determine my bad cholesterol. What does this mean, what are triglycerides? ... (8 replies)

... Hi Disneyworld, Hdl of 79 is a really good number, alot of us out there would love to have that. Total hdl of 155, I've never heard of. Usually there is hdl, ldl, trigs and total cholesterol. Perhaps you are talking about your total cholesterol number, if that's the case, that is also a good number. Sorry to hear about your husband passing, you hang in there and keep up... (5 replies)

... JJ, /5 means "divided by 5" as in "triglycerides divided by 5". In your case, 155/5 = 31. Why would you listen to a nutritionist (regarding diet) when you won't listen to your doctor (regarding drug therapy)? Do you trust the nutritionists judgement more than your doctors? And your diabetic husband would likely benefit from a low carbohydrate diet much more than you... (21 replies)
... I'm missing something. The first test above (156 for TC, 93 for LDL, 50 for HDL, and 64 for Trig) are all within the guidelines I've been given by my Dr. (TC 125-200; HDL >=40; Trig <150; LDL <130). If I had those numbers I wouldn't take statins. (4 replies)
