... One of my 1200mg fish oil capsules is only 10 calories. A 3oz pacific salmon fillet is around 100 calories and has less combined EPA+DHA than one capsule (not too mention about 80+mg of cholesterol). How am I doing better eating seafood versus taking a few capsules of concentrated oil? P.S. By the way, I take 6 such capsules per day - I have very high triglycerides, and... (10 replies)

... Bill, Arizona and NineLives gave you some additional advice that is very good. Niacin is great w/r/t changing the particle size to the more favorable larger, buoyant form. ... I was on Tricor for a few years when my triglycerides were astronomical (>600 mg/dL). I was sedentary and weighed over 220 lbs at the time though. Fortunately, through diet, exercise and weightloss (to 155 lbs), I no longer need any meds for control (my TGs are in the 30-40 mg/dL range now). It sounds like you have done the weight and exercise part of the equation to... (1 replies)
... Deb: Zip and jblondi have already told you some things that will greatly help. The following combination took my TGs from 600+ mg/dL down to 40 mg/dL unmedicated, and my HDL from 25 mg/dL up to 70 mg/dL. 1. Loss of weight (from 227 to 160 lbs) 2. ... A couple comments. It looks like these studies were geared to show niacin off in the best light. Why for example, compare with gemfibrozil rather than Lipitor? Even with this favorable comparison, the results for 2000 mg/day show 20% and 25% increases in HDL....this is, for example, a change from a wretched 30 to a wretched 36-37. Not enough to benefit most people. And then... (16 replies)

... Looking at your numbers, I would be concerned with the high triglycerides. Mine went from 600 to 108 by cutting out sugars, white flour products, and adding good fats (olive oil, salmon, walnuts). Eat unprocessed foods and add regular excercise (will help burn excess glucose in the body so it's important). (4 replies)
