... Triglycerides probably don't cause heart disease directly. But what happens is, triglycerides tend to have bad friends: small particle LDL, for instance. To say a level of 209 is not bad for most people is false. If your doctor didn't give you a VAP or lipoprotein test, he honestly has no idea if your 209 is okay or not. Ideally, triglycerides should be below 100 for most... (20 replies)

... Regardless of what drugs you take, you may want to consider cutting back on sugars, simple carbohydrates, and alcohol, since these tend to raise blood trigycerides. Also, if you are carrying excess body fat, try to lose it in order to help lower your LDL and triglyceride levels. (2 replies)
... Well I stand by my post. Tri's at 209 may be high but they are not bad for most people who have high trigycerides. Yes you can cut out white food ( sugar, wheat, whatever. Good advice I guess. But for most Doctors I have ever talked to say realistically its not possible to do all that. CHew 2x4's if you want but you wont live longer. Do what your doctor tells you. FISH OIL IS... ... Mr. Detail, My guess is that it won't involve any trigycerides. If my memeory serves it will be two (rarely 3) types of HDL and 4 or 5 densities of directly measured LDL...maybe several molecular weights of Lp(a). You know thow, there's no PROHIBITION against fasting, so why not do it anyway just to be sure, especially if you have a morning appointment. (2 replies)
... The total cholsterol/HDL ratio is thought to be a good indicator of heart attack risk. The risk is acceptable when this ratio is less than 4.0. Which is why the doctor is concerned. A TC/HDL ratio of 8.8 is not good. Your lipid profile (low HDL, high LDL and high trigycerides) is typical of metabolic syndrome. It affects people from an early age. A fasting blood sugar test... ... st about freaked. He put me on a drug called Gemfribrozil and it brought the TG number down to 104 in just six weeks. I've been on it ever since and it's kept my trigycerides down. The drug is easily tolerated by most people. I've had no problems with it. Ask your doctor about taking it. ... (10 replies)
... TC and LDL are fine. A low-carb dioet should fix the triglycerides and HDL. Cutting back on carbs reduces triglycerides. And extra saturated fat should increase HDL. Mark ;) (5 replies)
... HI ALL, HERE ARE MY NUMBERS: TOTAL CHOLESTEROL - 217 GOOD CHOLESTEROL - 40 BAD CHOLESTEROL - 118 TRIGYCERIDES - 283 :dizzy: AND MY MUSCLE TESTS CAME BACK GOOD, BUT WILL STILL BE A WHILE BEFORE ALL PAIN GOES AWAY OR IT MAY NOT ALL GO AWAY, AT THE TIME THE TEST WAS DONE I WAS OFF OF LIPITOR A WEEK AND ZETIA 2DAYS. STILL TAKING ALL MY SUPPLEMENTS. JUST WANTED TO LET YA... (5 replies)
... Anyway, if you are really unhappy with the numbers, reduce carbohydrates and increase fat in the diet. Reducing carbs should bring the trigycerides down. And increasing saturated fat will increase HDL, big time. ... (21 replies)

... of swings in the total cholesterol might be large difference in triglycerides from the menu of the day before. High fat, high sugar and alcohol will cause high trigycerides the day after, especially the evening's consumption. ... (1 replies)
... The thing that really stands out here is your *GOOD* (HDL) level....NOT GOOD! It should be at least 50 for a woman. If you can't get it higher with diet and exercise (regular aerobic should raise it), you should try to get the LDL (*BAD*) as LOW as possible to counter the low HDL. That means an LDL of 100 or less. As far as the TRGS, they should be under 150. Lower carb diet... (10 replies)

... In a way I can almost buy the relationship between cholesterol and prostate cancer because in my crazy mixed up head there is a relationship between men having problems "down there" :D and circulatory issues. My brother was bothered by prostatits for a few years before he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes AND high trigycerides, both of which are now controlled with... (17 replies)
... I have always had borderline cholesterol but the doctors have never suggested I take a statin (yet). My history is as follows: Sometime prior to 1998 (don't have the date on this test) TC 243 HDL 49 LDL 170 Tri 118 1998 TC 207 (22 replies)
