... Tyboyz, Some people have had luck by losing weight, cutting back on trans-fats (any food with 'hydrogenated' in the label), and regular aerobic exercise. I would also recommend Omega-3 Fish Oil (one with a high concentration of EPA and DHA - I use a brand called 'Super Omega-3', available at Puritan). HDL is not easy to budge - mine has been stuck at around 35 for... (13 replies)
... Yes you can getter better fish oils but I wouldn't worry too much. There is also mono and some sat fat in fish oil usually. Consider the oil instead of caps. One 1200 mg capsule isn't a lot if that's all you get. How did you take your flaxseed and how much? I use seed and grind 20g each day and take it with my muesli. Lipitor gets me into the mid 30's. Adding 500 mg. niacin gets me to very near 40 . BUT COPIOUS booze (like 12 ounces of gin<4 martinis>, or 30 ounces of wine) will get my HDL to 60. A REAL dilemma... ... tyboyz.. Your numbers are almost exactly the same as mine have been, which I got down pretty good with just diet and exercise the last year and a half. My dr. said things were looking pretty good, till my last test in Feb. 05. My last test which was in 2-05 was not good. Although my TC and LDL were about the same, my HDL went very low and my Trigs went up??? Right after the... (4 replies)
