... Man, those numbers are low, great HDL though. Is your dr. aware U are taking all these things together, as it almost looks like overkill. JMHO (6 replies)
... Seems to be a winning combo.....last ldl was 94 and hdl was 61 without zetia. Zetia seems to work with no side effects. ... (6 replies)
... U to take the Lipitor if the RYR is working, but oh yeah, he can't write a prescription for RYR. Gee, with numbers as low as U have, I wonder if U just took the Zetia and Niacin would be enough? ... (6 replies)

Niacin Studies
Jan 22, 2007
... Lenin, Did you up your dose of slo-niacin to 750 mg? I've read on the bottle that the 500 mg can be split at the score line so no need to buy the 750 if I decide to up my dose. One concern that you've expressed before is a tripled approach (Zocor + Zetia + Niacin). I need to do some research on that one before deciding. One of the Slo-Niacin studies was a triple (niacin... ... Thanks for the comments folks. There seems to be much speculation on niacin hexanicotinate and its effect on Lp(a). My Lp(a) was 15 by the VAP method (about equal to 30 to 45 with the commonly used method). After being on NHN for 6 months my Lp(a) was 15 by the commonly used method. If I get an extra $150, I might get another VAP. My doctor said I should keep my ldl... (6 replies)
... This dosage of niacin pulled it right into range. He tried to get me to take Lipitor in place of the red yeast rice..... ... (6 replies)
... I didn't see it, before and after. Better be careful with that combination, RYR is a natural statin, and behaves like a statin. Statins and niacin don't go well together. You're getting your cholesterol awfully low. There was nothing wrong with you HDL and LDL numbers before. ... (6 replies)
... a 30point increase. I told him I wanted back on Zetia to get the low LDL level back, and I would limit the beer drinking. ... (9 replies)
Zetia question?
Aug 30, 2007
... First of all, mom could benefit from a higher HDL, and Zetia isn't an HDL raiser. ... (6 replies)
... Your doctor is right...you're asking for liver damage if you take all 3 meds. Niacin works better for HDL and triglycerides than it does LDL in my experience. ... (9 replies)
... I told you all about the Zetia, I started on that 8 weeks ago, along with all the other things I have been doing in this story. After 4 weeks of taking the Zetia I had a blood test done and it lowered my total cholesterol another 25 points down to 300, and lowered my ldl a significant amount. ... (33 replies)
... Yeppers... perfectly safe. Infact, Zetia is most often prescribed together with statins. ... (7 replies)
... You must balance benefit against risk. So maybe somebody might not want to add zetia to a statin or zetia to a statin plus niacin AND alcohol while working in a chemical plant and popping Tylenols. ... (9 replies)
Niacin
Jul 26, 2004
... took zetia and my ldl went down to 131 but i quit the zetia and too cholestoff and policosanol and my ldl went up to 153, but my total cholesterol was 259 and on zetia it was still 250 so now i added 3 grams of niacin and psyllium fiber 3.4 grams with 2 or 3 meals a day. ... (23 replies)
... My doctor prescribed me Zetia due to elevated ALT levels and other issues with Crestor 5 mg. I had tried Niaspan but the flushing was bad. ... (14 replies)
... Like Connie said, the primary benefit of niacin is an increase in HDL so with any liver issues, it might not be wise to add to Lipitor. ... (9 replies)
Crestor and Zetia
Nov 15, 2006
... Lenin, Vytorin's page has head-to-head studies on it and that was one of the studies. I would think the same of Crestor (due to its potency) as you and past experience  . Maybe I misinterpreted the study:wave: . On another note, I'm thinking of just using Zetia for a month (instead of the Vytorin) so that I can keep taking Niacin. I feel much better on the... ... g, I'll be thrilled. I'm supposed to retest in December. Like I said, I may try the Policosanol with it and if my Total and LDL don't come down, then I have the Zetia to try with the Niacin. Also, I'm sticking with my Fish Oil and Red Wine as both of these have proven highly successful with tri's. ... (14 replies)
... Hopefully your results will come back good Lenin. If U haven't had problems with the Lipitor, 10 mgs., maybe the Zetia will be fine. ... (42 replies)
... Niacin is still a statin, albeit a natural one. Statins damage my muscles. :( That's why I had to switch to Zetia. Thanks though! :) (5 replies)
