Chronic Fatigue Message Board

Chronic Fatigue Board Index

Hi. I suffered from a condition I thought was CFS for many years. My doctor said it was exercise intolerance. I was tired most of the time. I bottomed out last year spending about twenty out of every twenty four hours of a day in bed. Thank God I was able to collect unemployment or I would have been homeless. I didn't have much money so I was trying to find ways to eat cheaply. I started eating a lot of oatmeal, White rice and cornbread. After about a month I started feeling much better. I was eating these foods on a daily basis. I felt so good one day I decided to go for a walk. Much to my delight, It made me feel good. I have been walking for about three weeks and I have worked my way up to 3 3/4 miles in forty minutes. Since I started walking I swithced from white rice to brown rice. I also use a lot of Rice Bran Oil. I am getting much more fiber than I was and I'm getting a lot of complex carbohydrates. I don't know for sure what is in the oatmeal, rice and cornbread that is helping me but I have not been able to exercise at all for sixteen months and I went for four years with hardly exercising at all. Please research all the nutritional information you can. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and lowfat dairy products. Stay away from processed foods and junk food. I know some people highly reccommend carrot juice that you juice yourself. Other things probably won't help if you are not getting proper nutrition.
I've been on Prozac for years but a couple of months ago a psychiatrist put me on the new antidepressant, lexapro. I'm getting good results from it. I did not feel like exercising until I changed my diet. I have not been a highly active person for about seven years. I used to be very fit and healthy when I was younger. It was so frustrating to not be able to exercise. I had given up on ever recovering. I gained a lot of weight when I wasn't exercising. I have about seventy pounds to lose. I'm confident I will as long as I'm able to continue to exercise.
If your husband isn't too tired or you can afford a professional, i would reccommend you start getting regular massages. This should make you feel a little better. Good luck to you and your husband and son. I hope things work out for you.
