Re: Colon cancer

[QUOTE=lee a]sandra,

I have a bag today due to rectal cancer. One of the reasons I have the bag is due to bathroom issues I developed during radiation to treat my rectal cancer. After surgery, and having sections of your colon/rectum removed, your body has to readjust itself. It no longer has the same equipment to process/store waste material. Thus frequent bathroom visits. It's my understanding it could take up to a yr for her body to devolope a new normal. Also what she eats will effect her more now.

Is she on any type of chemo treatment at this time? That will cause major bathroom issue problems.

Because it's only been 3 mths I would say give it time. Maybe keep a diary of what she eats and see how it effects her. Taking fiber should help bulk things up (personally, I have found that cheese is much more effective in doing this). Have her talk to her doctor.

Hope this helps some.
