Re: Dr. Tobias?
May 1, 2005
I had surgery with him in 1999. Let's just say that I would not go back. I am now looking for a revision rhinoplasty surgeon to fix the breathing problems that I now have, that doctors have stated are a direct result of the '99 surgery. I have a collapsed valve, slight deviated septum (which wasn't there before), and turbinate problem. Also, my nose barely looks any different. I asked him why, up until a year after the surgery, and he said it was swelling. When the appearence was still the same after one year, he admitted to me, "Well, yes, your nose is a little bigger than you or I would have liked." I wasn't really satisfied with this explanation...? Anyway that's all, would not recommend. Im looking at Dr. Toriumi in Chicago, I heard he's fantastic.

Hi. I have to be careful with my words so that I don't say anything that could get me in trouble.... As of right now, I have serious breathing problems that have been confirmed by other doctors to be a direct result of the rhinoplasty I had in 1999. I did not have these problems before that surgery. Anyway, about a week or two after surgery, I noticed a huge (bad) difference in my breathing. I told him at that point, "I can't breathe." He looked up there and said "I don't see anything." I have gone to two other doctors since then: one ENT doctor and Dr. Romo, who is a plastic surgeon in NYC. They both looked up there and saw several different problems. Let's just say that I find it hard to believe that Tobias didn't see anything. So, therefore, since my problems are a result of that rhinoplasty, I would rather put my trust into another doctor to fix the problem. I would not feel comfortable going back to the same doctor who did the surgery that caused my problems. Therefore, I did not ask him for any kind of fixes.

Hello Katherineutc....I also have the same problems as you. I have had 4 rhinoplasy surgeries, and now have a collaspsed valve too, and a deviated septum. I too never saw much difference in the appearance of my nose. All I got out of all those surgeries was a nose that I can't breath out of now. I need some help finding THE BEST RHINOPLASTY SPECIALIST. PLEASE PLEASE ANYONE that has had any sort of success with a Dr. please let me know your story plus who your Dr. was. I am trying to get two surgeries done at once. I want to have revision rhinoplasty plus breast augmentation. I want a Dr. that is great at both. I was going to try Dr. Brad Jacobs. Has anyone heard of Dr. Brad Jacobs? Katherineutc have you found a Dr. that has helped you get that cute nose you want plus fix your breathing? Anyone please write me if you have some advise for me. I am going to travel any where to fix my nose.

Hey guys -- definitely check out Toriumi. I'm having my primary rhinoplasty with him on Monday (soooo nerve wrecking!). I have definitely done a lot of research on this guy; so far, all I've heard is good stuff. He's very expensive, but come on -- it's your face, it's worth it! The only complaint so far is that he's not that personable. He's very professional and gets down to business. However, his office staff is very nice. WISH ME LUCK!!

whonoseII, Have you gone back to Dr. Tobias for a post-op check-up and did you tell him your concerns? I know what you are feeling like b/c I, too, did not have a great rhinoplasty and was extremely upset all the time because of it. But you really shouldn't be so upset all the time, I know that it is very disappointing to go in with high hopes and think that you are going to look a 100% better, but just the opposite happens. I feel that these sucky surgeons who practice and do botched jobs shouldn't get the best of us. Right now I am looking for a revision surgeon to hopefully fix things that my incompetent first surgeon, Dr. Milch, messed up. I wish you all the best!!
