... Not really. You don't want to mess with abscesses by yourself. You may need antiobiotics in addition to the deep teeth cleaning you seem to require. Even if you did drain the peripheral abcsess (just an example, DO NOT try it yourself, as this may release bacteria), you'd still need treatment to eliminate the underlying cause, which is usually an untreated tooth decay. ... ... who did the root canal told me two things that actually made sense! He said that the circulation in the gums around my teeth is excellent, which is wonderful for gum health,but hell when at the dentist, because the novacaine does not stay put...instead it leaves the area too quickly. ... I just went though this same thing. I had a very old root canaled tooth, that suddenly had a bump above it, on my gum. It was tender, but nothing ever came out of the bump (absess). I took antibiotics for two weeks and it went away. Then came back after one month.So the dentist said it had to come out. Which I did, and now I'm waiting for an implant. Good luck with this! ... hi i went to dentist on thursday with toothache they checked said filling came out and made me appointment for next week on saturday at 2pm i was in agony with tooth all day and night never slept even had me in tears so i went to a and e on sunday morning as have fever too they put me on co amoxiclav and naproxen and cocodramol on monday my mouth gums have all swollen... ... How old are you? It's known that tooth/gum/jawbone infections can cause problems in other areas, i actually just found articles pointing out that they might cause MS too. That's so scary, because dentists these days massively contribute to unhealthy and infected mouths with their "treatments" that can later turn into a disaster.
