Diet & Nutrition Board Index

I just happened to stumble across some information that is very relevant to the question that I posted. I'll share that info with you all....

Drawbacks
In the early stages of a very low calorie diet (up to 16 weeks), dieters may experience a few minor side effects such as fatigue, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea, but these side effects usually improve or disappear entirely within a few weeks. However, there are other more serious side effects with this sort of rapid weight loss regimen, including the development of gallstones.

You are surprised by this?

People on a very low calorie diet experience fatigue, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea because they are putting their body through unnecessary stress and not eating enough to give their body the energy needed to get through a day. That is just common sense. No one should go on a diet that is very low in calories. It is very unsafe, unwise, and unnecessary. But for those that have to for medical reasons they would be under a doctors care during the diet. Also, people in the medical field now say DON'T diet, just change your eating habits and start eating more healthy. I have never really gone on any diets, but just starting to eat in a more healthy way has helped me lose weight.

The link you posted shows a warning.

Warning!
Under no circumstances should anyone follow a very low calorie diet without medical supervision.

Would that be an indication that i need to consume more calories although I haven't experienced all the symptoms? I want so bad to lose weight, but I don't want to acquire any other major medical concerns either. Currently I'm trying to stay at about 1200 calories and I workout 50 minutes daily ie. power walking and jogging or 50 minutes of power walking. Is this ok? :)

I wouldn't consider 1200 calories to be a very low calorie diet. But it all depends on your height and weight. There are ways to find out how many calories you should be eating.

Anyway, this board (diet and nutrition) is not for talking about weight loss.
