Nuts are more healthy for you than foods containing saturated fat because they don't clog your arteries and cause your bad cholesterol-ldl to go up as high as eating a steak would. Saturated fats are mostly found in animal products, and eating too much can put you at risk for heart disease.

In addition, walnuts and almonds raise good cholesterol-hdl and are considered healthy for your heart. Since I started eating these two nuts every day, my good cholesterol has risen 14 points, it went from 63 to 77, which is way over the requied level of 40 for heart protection. Unsalted nuts are healthier than salted ones, since excess salt leads to high blood pressure. I also enjoy sunflower seeds, which are high in calcium and will help protect your bones.

Just watch the quantity of nuts you eat, the recommendation is to eat about a handful a day, otherwise you may gain weight.
