Diet & Nutrition Board Index

3-4 servings of red meat is not over-doing it. It's mainly the outer layer of fat on the cow that's unhealthy. The marbling you see in a steak is a healthy fat that the heart needs to keep it strong. Choose the better quality of ground meat, not the cheapest which is full of added fat when ground, and lean steaks with a light marbling of fat. I like the sirloin ground beef, both for it's taste and not too much fat for hamburgers.

The heart is a muscle and it needs healthy fat to be strong. You can get healthy fat in your diet from whole milk, whole butter (not margarines or blends) and meat, (beef, chicken, turkey, oily fish - salmon, etc) and olive oil. Just be sure to include the other healthy sources of meat along with the beef and you should do okay.

Your diet and exercise sound good, be sure to include fresh fruits, nuts and whole grains.
