HI

Your post caught my eye because I too have had this problem for many years and diagnosed with IBS, tried everything etc.

ONe thing that does help is gas relief pills: I get the store brand and the only ingredient is simethicone i get the max strenght.

However on an unrelated issue, I just started the Atkins diet to loose some baby weight gain and also because I had Gestational diabetes twice and am looking for a lower carb lifestyle because I am terrified with ending up with diabetes 2, which I am now at risk. I read the book and am doing it exact.

Besides the immedietly weight loss I noticed I am no longer bloated and my belly is flatter, less gas, belly aches. Also I got my period and no bloating or PMS. I do think the bloating is diet, since I ate a lot of carb foods, cereals, milk, breads, which i assumed were healthy and can be but are very high carb. Many people are sensitive to carbs like me. Also this diet allows no sugar and I am such a sugar aholic that I think that may have been causing the problem with bloating too. Even though I din't eat a lot of junk food, things you never thought were loaded with sugar are, including nutrition bars and shakes, sauces, salad dressings, cereals, and even many things that say low fat, organic or whatever.

I agree that eating LESS carbs really helps! Even if you still eat a normal amount of carbs rather than a very low carb diet it helps. I still eat carbs but I stick with low glycemic. No pastas, white breads, or regular potatoes. Instead I eat whole wheat, flourless breads, brown and wild rice, and sweet potatoes. They have more flavor anyway and I enjoy them very much! You never realize how many carbs you eat until you really look at your diet. I try to aim for 6 servings of carbs a day. Remember, a bagel from the bagel shop can typically be 4 servings right there! Instead, eat a mini wheat bagel for a healthier option, or have one slice of bread for a sandwich instead of two. There are small changes that really make a difference. I also try to stay away from too many sweets. I eat plenty of fruit, but stay away from candy and eat sugar free puddings and things like that instead of regular.
