... The FiSH test works by labeling specific chromosomes (by targeting unique DNA sequences in them). Because the point of FISH is to get a quick result they do not culture the cells the same way they do for full karyotyping and thus, they do not necessarily "capture" the cells during the part of the cell cycle when they have exactly 23 pairs of chromosomes and by necessity some... ... Congratulations on your results, what a relief for you and your family. I had the FISH test with my daughter, it was normal and the final full karyotype was normal too. ... (3 replies)
... he doctor has reassured me that it is highly unlikely and very rare for the final tests results to show any different, but I was wondering if any of you had this fish test done and got a normal then still turned out your baby had DS ? ... (3 replies)

... Hi everyone, I'm new here and hope you can help. I am 21 weeks pregnant and my FISH test came back 90% normal and 10% with a "mosaic" pattern. I have no idea what to make of this. There is little to no information available on the FISH. The results of the amnio probably won't be back until early next week but it would be nice to know what this means. Help! (1 replies)
... I can't help you too much with the genetic part, but I have had a baby with Down syndrome. From what I understand about the FISH test, it only determines how many copies of the chromosome are present, but can't tell you any details about the structure of the chromosomes. ... (1 replies)
... Our first grandbaby was born 2 weeks ago and we suspected down syndrome. A FISH test was performed with a positive result of Trisomy 21 with 6 cells affected. ... (1 replies)
... Hello, I saw this question on the board and although I do not have a DS baby I had to write about this. Our neighbor was tested, they were pretty sure that she would have a DS baby. She and her husband were deciding what to do. I prayed they would just leave it totally in God's hands and not continue to further test. It is a good thing they decided to do nothing. Their... ... The amnio was not that bad. It hurt more coming out then going in. I would do it again if we decide to have a third child. If you do the amnio ask about the fish test. ... (24 replies)
... I'm still waiting for the full report of the amnio which should be in around the 22nd but the FISH test only took 48hrs for results. These results have easied our minds somewhat but I'm looking forward to the full report. ... (7 replies)
... Hi thanks for the reply :) That is what I thought but they do clearly tell you that its not 100 % , I guess they have to allow for mistakes....My understanding of it from all the research I done was that it was 98% accurate....Anyway I plan on phoning the hospital tomorrow morning to see if the final results are in, but Im sure Im just panicking for nothing :) thanks again for... ... Hi Natalie: I don't have ds kids, so I don't know exactly what having a ds kid is like. However, I can tell you in the first place that having a kid and bringing him or her up, whether ds or not, is not an easy task at all. I presume that a ds kid will require, strictly speaking, more time and attention, but I hear that the parents of a ds kid donot complain about the... (13 replies)
... I remember reading some posts about this on the pregancy board not to long ago. It was woman talking about getting false test results for DS and all the stress they were going through. Try and do a search on that board. ... (7 replies)
