Hey,
Was doing a little research and came across your posts. I'm on day 17 and I have had many surgeries in my life a lot more intense than this one, but this by far has been the worst, getting my tonsils out. Granted I"m old, but WOW. The doctor told me it would be the worst sore throat I could ever imagine and he wasn't even close. For 2 weeks just about everything I ate had to be put in a blender and sucked through a straw. I never had much bleeding, but had to sleep in a recliner chair with my head above my feet for 2 weeks. As you know yourself, just trying to get water down for the first week is pure non stop torture. Seems there should be a better way to do this. Oh well, I just went for my first check up today and the Doc says it's looking pretty good and in another week to 10 days I shouldn't have any pain to just swallow or drink, but I will be best to stay away from any crunchy foods for at least another 3 to 4 weeks. But I shouldn't have to worry about strep or sore throats again, which is great.
Hey there im on week 5 today and im still having problems :( i seem to have a cyste like thing on one side and the other day it felt like i was starting up with tonsilitus again :( i was so worried, so iv been staying away from people. I was in the drs 2wks ago and was talking to a guy who was my age (44) when he had his done and he said that, it takes a lot longer because it took him months to get back to normal. Have you had any problems with yawning? i cant seem to yawn properley!! and the blob in the side goes down my throat a bit, its like having food stuck in my throat. Do you have anything like this or is your smooth? Thanks by the way for taking the time to reply its much appreciated :) God Bless and good health. TONI :)

My pleasure, it was good to read the conversations back and forth between you and SophieIng a few days ago. I had been trying to read up as much as I could from those of us that have had to have this torture put upon us, and any information we can give each other that can help or encourage, is always a good thing. Anyway, sorry to hear you are not fairing so well after 5 weeks. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence :( but I think I am maybe doing a little better than you right now. I'm still talking probably 75% of the medicine dosage, but the pain levels are maintained at a much lower level, certainly. Oddly enough, the right side was the inflamed/swollen side before the surgery, but the left side has been the painful side of the two. Swallowing is still painful probably a 6-7 on a 1 to 10 scale, but slowly easing off every few days. Sleeping is still an issue for sure, but slowly getting better as well. I just never expected that this thing would ever be the issue it is. Yes, yawning is rather painful for sure, so I try to not do that as much as possible. I have a dark blue track on the right side that is rather strange looking and swollen out and when I eat does feel like there is food stuck on it, but I know there is not. I just hope all this goes away and 6 months from now it's just a bad nightmare. Talked with a few friends I know who had theirs removed and it seems that the stories are rather the same, (HORROR) almost makes it feel like we're all part of a club or family, although I wish it were under different circumstances. I will certainly pray for you and keep you in my thoughts. Keep me posted regular as to whats going on. God Bless---- Chuck
