... Hi Shlouie You should not be more than a hop skip and a jump away from a hospital for the next 2 or 3 weeks post op bleeds are relatively common. Be safe stay at home a post op bleed is very scary take it from as I am a nurse and have seen it happen. Linda PS I am having mine out on the 17th August and am truely scared. (16 replies)

... Hey to you...I had my tonsillectomy done on 2/6, to be honest this has been no fun at all. I could choke my dr for not being a little more upfront about the pains and woes. I have found drinking large amounts of ice water has helped the pain and swelling. Also when the ear pain begins (and it will) CHEW GUM, this to helps relieve the discomfort. ... Thanks a lot Jude. I spoke to hosp today and they said I can have pre med if I want - will see how I feel on the day but at least it's an option. What's really bugging me now is that I know from reading on here and other people's stories that this is not an easy op but all my friends and family think it's going to be a doddle cos it is for kids - when I try to explain... ... What helped me get others to understand was printing out the LisaMP post and a few of the bleeding horror stories, for their enrichment. In addition keep a small flash light handy and make whoever is about look in and check for bleeding. Remind them that your throat has been completely violated, now swallowing for any reason hurts.
