yes, I do agree that having childhood food issues can be a big part of developing an eating disorder..my dad and his wife had the same wierd food issues that you've described-carrob easter baskets, weekly visits to the dairy farm for goat milk and unpasturized milk(yech!) beansprouts and tofu sandwhiches...what a totally messed up way to bring up kids! I too was bulimic for eight years, and although i think my father's weirdness did have a part in it, I think it goes way beyoond that. I agree with the lady who responded to you that said it's a control thing...we were raised with very extreme control-freaks in our families, and I think it is a learned behavior. Do be careful when you have your own kids...you must find a happy medium...with my first daughter, i blew it by letting her eat whatever she wanted...now i struggle to get her to eat healthy things-basicslly, she only likes pizza and mac and cheese-hates veggies-and i know this is because I harbored issues from my childhood.
Good luck!

wow! That is the best advice I could have gotten. You are right, they never meant to hurt me...I think they were so focused on what was BEST that they put aside the obvious. Hearing similar stories, and also getting a slap of reality, will really help me move out of this "poor me" syndrome. The bulimia is another story....I am trying, but am having a tough time. Any suggestions?

Sorry, one other thing....I do not know how old your kids are at this point, but would it help to use vegies in a "fun" way. for example , make pizzas but use really fresh onions, mushrooms, peppers, fresh tomato sauce, fresh herbs and good cheese, even light cheese and even she does not notice...a whole wheat crust? or do the same type of thing with soups or omelettes? Funny because the vegies I love to eat I remember growing and picking in my grandmas garden. It was so fun for me to pull the stems out of the ground and a whole carrot would magically appear..or go pick our own apples and corn.. I know times are busy, but sometimes making things more fun and colorful helps too.
