| If you've become dependent on laxatives in order to have a bowel movement, it may be difficult to have one on your own.
Your body will have to be retrained to work properly, without drugs.
I would discuss this with your physician; I don't think anyone here can answer your question about whether cold turkey is advisable, or whether you should wean off slowly. Only your doctor can answer that.
I can advise eating prunes, drinking tons of water, eating bran cereal, taking a natural fiber supplement like Metamucil, drinking a cup of strong coffee, and getting plenty of cardio exercise.
Those are the only constipation cures I know. They've always worked for me, and I've never taken a laxative (I'm kind of scared to).
But definitely ask your doctor which method is best.
