... Hi Mspence... I have an ED and Bipolar Disorder. For my Bipolar Disorder I take Topamax, which is used as both a mood stabilizer and to treat the bulimia/binge eating disorder. It can be used separately to treat just bulimics or people with migraines (numerous usages medicine). Since I've been taking Topamax I've had my binge eating cut down by about 90%. The other 10%... ... Hi, first time posting for me. I'm very bulimic, have been for 15 years. For those with bulimia, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to share what meds have worked for them successfully. I am currently on naltraxone (normally used to treat other addictions), and also just started on a low dose of topamax. Naltraxone curbs the urges to b/p a little, but does not take... (0 replies)

... the ED thoughts are ALWAYS with me. I can say that the Topamax has been a life saver as far as the migraines go so if you know of anyone who has can suggest trying the Topmax for that! ... (22 replies)
... Yes, it is actually prescribed for bulima because it controls the binge eating. However, it does cause weight loss. And I see your point, dragonfly, I developed Anorexia my first year after starting Topamax. I don't know if I blame the Topamax, as I was dieting to really try to lose the way and took it to extremes. But I'm sure it aided in some way, my pdoc was going to... (4 replies)
... Hi - I've been taking this for about a month. At first it helped SOOOOO much. I'm 33 - have been pretty severely bulimic, like binging/purging 10x a day for many years off and on - have recently discovered through educating myself that some of my binging is "subjective purging" as in I'm not really eating more than a normal person would eat, it's just more than is... ... Topamax has been a miracle drug in terms of bulimia for me. ... (22 replies)
... It works different on everyone, but I would hold off until after the tests. There's always a list of side effects from starting new meds and you don't know exactly how it will effect you. Even at a low dose. I started at 25mg. I'm pretty sure I had the brain fog at that dose. I take 175mg. now and I'm used to it. The brain fog doesn't seem to be there so much. I take it... (4 replies)
... Hey sweetie - You need some help. I'm in the same boat. I've been battling this problem for years. I'm 33 and finally realizing, nope, I'm not going to grow out of this. Yeah, I'm a slow learner. For me, to be honest, it gets much, much worse this time of year because of seasonal depression. I've decided to try Topamax, not sure how great it is. But it has seemed to... (2 replies)

... nd I'm just so embarrased. I hate it soooooooooooo much. I've tried taking the weight neutrel meds and I don't agree with any of them. As far as I know Lamictal, Topamax and Geodon are not weight gainers. If you can help it never take Zyprexa or Seroquel, they are big time weight gainers. ... (4 replies)
... The drug is called Topamax. There are also many other medications out there with less side effects that help bulimia and other ED's. If you feel very out of control, please seek out attention of a pdoc, not an MD, medical prescription advice. ... (4 replies)

... I agree - a medication that makes you gain weight is never good when you deal with an eating disorder. But, I assume you see that you likely started the b/p cycle again after getting off of prozac more because of the weight gain than that the drug had been helping you stop - so much at least. Probably some of both though. I have had a lot of side effects from stopping... (2 replies)
... Case There are so many different psych meds out there. Some meds will cause drowsiness, but if they do, the doctor will have you take them during the pm verses the am. Some meds are tended to cause a little drowsiness- the benzo's because they are to totally relax a person- and I take one of those; Ativan, and it doesn't have any 'side effects' on me whatsoever, except it... ... Prozac helps alot of the time. Tonight, however, was a bad night. I binged on brownies, then I went out to play pool with my husband. I thought drinking some water and 'peeing out the bloat' might make me feel better. Instead, I felt worse. I went to the bathroom twice while we were there to purge, but both times people came in. I told my husband that I really wanted to... (15 replies)
... bulimia, and a host of gastro problems, including acid reflux, gastroparesis, among others. I'm currently taking 50 mg of Topamax and 10 mg of Celexa, but I still feel super down, and to be honest i just don't want to throw up anymore. ... (1 replies)
