Hello. I've been looking for a support site like this and I have to say that it is AWESOME! It's so comforting to know that I am not alone out there. I am 25 yrs old and I suffer from grand-mal seizures. Currently I am on Lamictal and Topamax. The seizures started in Oct on 2001 and I have had 10 to date. Honestly having the seizures is not a major concern for me, however I want a baby more than anything in this world. I know women do it all the time but I am so scared of hurting the baby. My doctor diagnosed me with MTS and recommended me for the surgery, but that means no baby for a while. Any suggestions? I would love to hear from any women w/epilepsy who carried a baby and people who had the surgery. Thanks!!
Dear Vicky, Thank you so much for your reply. I am truly happy for your daughter and I wish her only the best in life. Just by your description I can tell that she is such a strong and determined person and you should be so proud of her.

I have been on Lamictal since the beginning of my seizures (2001) and out of all the meds that I have taken (Dilantin, Tegretol, and Topamax) Lamictal has been my favorite. The side effects have been very minimal, only that I get sleepy sometimes and it's hard for me to fall asleep. But I definately prefer those effects than taking more meds. Every day I think about having a baby. I've been married for 3 yrs and I have not been taking birth control and still no baby. My doctor has been telling me to wait, but I can't. Am I being selfish? All of my seizures have been Grand Mal and I have been so blessed that I have not seriously hurt myself. Only lots of bruises, broken toe, and some serious tongue biting. It could have been worse. I never get any auras before my seizures, but I really wish I did. Hearing about people who have had the surgery eases my mind so much. I think I may have fertility problems also and that is harder to deal with than the epilepsy. Do you think I should wait and get the surgery before persuing to get pregnant?? Any advice would help.
Thank you so much!!
