I had my first fit in November 2006, the fit was provoked by a brain tumour that was subsequently diagnosed in June 2007 after a MRI scan. The brain tumour was removed in July 2007. After the operation I unfortunately had another fit as a result of a cist that formed three days after the operation where the tumor had been. The cist was treated and I was put onto anti biotics for seven days. I was also prescribed anti epilepsy medication (phenatowin) and after a couple of months of taking this medication I was put on to epilem. The seizures continued approximately once a month. The dosage of the medication was increased from 300 mgs to 2000 mgs over a period of several months. The side effects of the drugs had effected me to an unacceptable level so I have changed my medication to lamotrigine. My question is: what tests if any should be done to establish if anti epilespy drugs should be prescribed. The first fit I had was as a result of the brain tumour and the second a result of the cist, so I feel that there is a chance that I may have not needed the anti epilepsy medication?
