10 year old son

... I am new and have a number of questions but first some background. My 10 year old son had two Tonic Clonic siezures two week apart back in November. Both occurred at about 3am, lasted about 40 sec and were followed by leg kicks while he was awake. Attempted 3 EEGs during day under sleep deprivation but he never fell asleep. Doctor would not test him at night. He said he... (4 replies)

We followed the regiment of the Carbitrol medication exactly and he became so much worse. I called the hospital and they said, "Well, if it was Dystonia the medication would have worked! ... ... Hey Jen, As you know everyone has different tolerance to AEDs. Out of all of the meds Katie took, I have to say Depakote was the worst. However, she never took Topomax or Dilantin, and I have heard those are touchy ones too. Katie went from 110 pounds down to 88 in less than 4 months. She lost all of the hair on her body...I mean ALL! She didn't have to shave her... (5 replies)

... Hello, I am on Carbitrol (a type of Tegretol). Last week I experienced the same type of itchiness you are. ... I am on Carbitrol - I understand it is also a long-lasting Tegretol. I understand your frustration. I have simple and complex-partial seizures also. ... I am too am on Carbitrol. The only side effects I get from this medication is hot flashes. That is due to the Carbatrol being metabolized through the liver as my Premarin is, so it eats up the hormornes and my body reacts like I don't have any, hence the hot flashes. I can go about 3 months without a seizure on this medication. (3 replies)
... I am so very sorry for your losses!! I am not on AEDs, but did have 6 miscarraiges on the way to having my two kids (who both have epilepsy now).... Are you already on folic acid? Abdominal epilepsy
Aug 28, 2003
... I've been told I have a rare case of abdomial epilepsy. My spasms/seizures come with absolutely no warning and result in a sharp stabbing pain in my lower left side. The pain is extremely intense but only lasts for 15-30 seconds followed by some unsteadiness in my left arm and leg. I usually fall to the ground. After 2-3 minutes I'm okay and can resume walking. I've quit... (1 replies)
