Teenage moodswings
Apr 28, 2006
... hassles at this age must be hard, so moodswings are bound to be expected. But you're right to be suspicious of the meds. I don't know much about Teg but being on Epilem was really difficult for me. ... (6 replies)
... Hi Rinoa I can't say I've had chronic fatigue, it was perhaps appoaching that whilst on Epilem - I only made it to about 60% of uni lectures on when Epilem as compared with a generally perfect attendance rate (and my house was 5 mins walk from the lecture halls), but don't think this classes as chronic as I did make some. I've always had concentration problems on... (8 replies)

... D Hooray! The only time I've experienced insomnia is when I took Epilem with Lamictal. It stopped when I came off Epilem. The hyperactivity thing with Lamictal didn't affect me, but my metabolism shot up with Topamax. ... (24 replies)
Lamictal v. Keppra
Jan 30, 2007
... Hi Craig Like you said, meds all effect different people in different ways and as everyone's epilepsy is different, one person's "wonder drug" will be another's nightmare. So I can't give you much more than my experiences with both of them. Lamictal was the first drug my neuro tried me on (Dec 1998). He chose this drug because it is generally effective in controlling my... (2 replies)
... Hey I've been on Epilem (Depakote/Valproate in the US), it was the worst 2 years of my entire life. I gained around about 2 stone (couldn't stop eating), I got depressed, couldn't think and couldn't sleep when I was supposed to and sometimes fell asleep mid-conversation - it was like my epilepsy had changed to narcolepsy. And it wasn't stopping the seizures either. And my... (9 replies)
... I too am on epilem, my doseage is 2000mg a day, the only side effects I have is muscle spasms. I agree it's up to you whether you stop your meds or not but your Dr is probably right that the seizures will be there. ... (4 replies)
... memory loss etc as possible side effects, but some are worse than others. It's just the way the meds work unfortunately, so most people taking these meds will experience this to some extent. ... (6 replies)
... Hey Nikki Depakote is a widely used drug which usually controls seizures well. However it is also well known for it's side-effects, depression and weight gain being a couple of them. However many women choose not to opt for depakote if they are considering having children, as it's thought that (some doctors don't believe it) there are increased chances of facial... (7 replies)
... m. The seizures continued approximately once a month. The dosage of the medication was increased from 300 mgs to 2000 mgs over a period of several months. The side effects of the drugs had effected me to an unacceptable level so I have changed my medication to lamotrigine. ... (1 replies)
... Just started taking Lyrica on Friday, tapering it in really slowly so only on 25mg per day, taking it at night, then I'll add in the morning dose in 2 weeks and so on. I've noticed fatigue, but I also had a "funny turn" last night. I was at a rehearsal for a show I'm in next week, and because I wasn't going to be on stage for about 20 minutes I had a lie down because I felt so... (11 replies)
... I'm on 3000mg per day. I too have tried lots of drugs which either had horrid side effects or just didn't work. ... (9 replies)
... Hey everyone, Wow, it's weird but strangely comforting to hear all these different stories. I'm Eilidh, 23, and from Scotland. I was diag. with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy at age 17, when I had 2 grand mal seizures. I've had absense seizures since I was about 10 but I never told anyone about them because I had no clue what they were and was embarassed. I thought I was... (71 replies)
... and I've tried lots of combinations of drugs. I've been on lamictal and topamax for a year now and although my fits aren't controlled yet and I still have side effects I've got to say it's probably the best combination I've been on so far. I've been on lamictal since I was 17 but I started topamax just last year. ... (24 replies)
