... My long term disability insurance company (from when I worked- glad I paid into that benefit) will send someone with me if it gets to the hearing level... it definitely is in their favor to have SSD paying their portiong, then the LTD company pays the balance of what I get now, so I don't drop down to poverty levels. Just such a hassle when it's hard enough to just stay... (4 replies)
Sz. Disorder

... It may or may not have been me at first; but I often repeat it. I find it useful so If you can come up with a system to use letters for (G) grandmal (A) aura or whatever types you wish to use for a coding based on your case. As long as you know and write down what your system is. Write down the Time (approx. length) of the seizure on the Day IF you can. Also note med... (4 replies)

... Travis, At the risk of a threadjack here.... I *think* it was you who mentioned this "month at a glance" thing once before when I mentioned difficulty with organizational stuff since my small stroke and subsequent seizures. The calendar I've been using just wasn't working for me. Just wanted to jump in here (since you just brought up the topic again) and thank you for... (4 replies)

Sz. Disorder
Dec 2, 2007
... Ouch. Sorry to hear thats how you started having seizures. As one who started it as a child with another odd situation (brain tumor) I know the helpless feeling. Speaking as another epileptic (PATIENT ONLY, no training) it sounds like the head trauma is a likely cause that started your situation. Scans can help the Dr's further their diagnosis into that. What meds may... (4 replies)

... Selina, First of all, I give you a ton of credit for putting all this out there on your very first post on these boards. Gosh, you've been through so much! A disclaimer first...I do not have any medical background whatsoever, I'm just a person who has epilepsy (and other medical problems) that frequents this board. Seeing an epileptologist is a great start. I do NOT... (4 replies)
Sz. Disorder
Dec 1, 2007
... Hi, My name is Selina. In December of 2004 I fell down 20 set of concrete steps and seized non-stop for nine days. After this time my neurologist came into my room and told me that they were going to put me in a Psych ward. I am still having horrible seizures with really bad memory loss. I do not know what to do anymore. I can not drive, work or just about anything... (4 replies)

... Yeah, "Aunt Flo" (thought that was a cute name for that time of the month, which I only heard recently) doesn't help anything, and she's in town. Doc called back herself yesterday, and said NO- DON'T COME TO THE OFFICE.....I"ve seized 2x there, where they've called 911...never a good sign when the doc ships ya out! I"m venturing into the shower- more for the sake of the dog.... (10 replies)

... Hi...I was diagnosed with sz disorder (had my first gm at work) over 2 yrs ago and put on Dilantin....the side fx of Ep and Dilantin caused some strain on my marriage (involving somewhat decreased libido, possibly in part due to drug itself and possibly in part due to my wife not being happy with the way I had become......tired and cranky all the time) 9 weeks ago I switched... ... Hi, A psuedo sz. is when a person causes the sz. themself and it's all related to psycological problem or psycological disorder. The person can't handle stress or other matters in their life so they will fake an epileptic sz. to get attention from others. Often it is hard for a Dr. to tell if the person is truly having a sz. or if they are faking the sz. the best thing... (11 replies)
... I was on Depakote for a while, but had problems with tremors, and my writing, which at that time , I did a lot of at work (now on disability for sz), so couldn't tolerate it. I was taking it for an autonomic disorder, not epilepsy. I've had good results with Tegretol, Neurontin(for autonomic disorder and sz), Klonopin, and Ativan for breakthroughs (auras hit, and I take a 2mg... (8 replies)

... I'm also going to be doing a video EEG soon, and am more nervous about being off the meds than anything. Benzodiazepine medications are addictive, but taking them regularly doesn't make you an addict-just physically dependent- big difference (addicts keep taking them regardless of negative consequences and have intense cravings in spite of the knowledge of harmful effects)....
