Weight training 2-3 times a week is sufficient and also a great way to speed up the metabolism. Pilates is also a great way to tone the lower body and abs, and in MY opinion, I think that strength training/toning are vital elements to weight loss. Veggie girl said there is NO other way to lose weight than to burn calories, well, strength training also burns calories and worked for me when I lost alot of weight! :) You won't bulk up because you are a female..... since we don't have that hormone "testosterone." It's cool cause after you weight train, your body will burn calories all day, even when you sleep because when muscle is at rest and being made, your body works(metabolism) hard to build the muscle, thus burning calories. So, if you have the time, try to do cardio 3-4 days a week for at least 40 minutes, and try to fit in strength training in at least 2x a week(which would produce really fast results). Or you could do a 20 minute cardio workout, and a quick arms routine one day, then the next day another 20 min routine and then lower body the next. I use the "Quick Fix" videos (dvd sometimes) which includes 10 minutes of abs, legs, arms etc, and you can do it before or after your cardio routines. You won't bulk up and you'll be amazed at how much faster you fit into them jeans as opposed to doing ONLY cardio! And also incorporating pilates with cardio will do some good too. Stretching is also a vital component to your regimen because it will help prevent possible injuries, and increases flexibilty. Stretch before and after each workout, and try to do a longer duration of stretching at least once a week, like yoga is a good example. Start off slow, and don't over do your exercise routine right away. You need to build yourself up. Pay attention to the measuring tape as opposed to the scale. Good luck. :wave:
