I know this is an old thread, but I happened across it and had a quick question:

Right now I bike 4 miles over hilly terrain to work and 4 miles back in the evening. I ride at a vigorous pace, so though my workout is not lengthy (15-20min.), it is relatively intense, and I do it twice a day.

Anyway, in the morning, I usually have a quick breakfast before I go - a small bowl of cereal & milk. I leave the house within 15 mins. of eating. Breakfast would barely have time to digest at all by the time I'm on the road, right? And when I get home at night, I sometimes want a snack - is a protein bar a good option, or should I skip the snack altogether?
