Hit your abs with heavy weight that will allow you to hit positive failure in the 8-12 rep range. The best exercises to do this with are cable crunches and weighted leglifts (which will hit your lower abs very well) for two sets apeice. Abs like any other muscle when trained intensely need rest. You only need to hit them like this once a week and your abs will blow up.
