You can exercise too much and develop over training syndrome. My belief is that you should have on day completely off a week. Mix cardio with strength training. 3 day a week weight training (not consecutive days) Building muscle is important and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn just being alive. Mix up the cardio, HIIT is excellent. I would suggest 2-3 days a week and other cardio the rest of the time, waling, biking, elliptical and so on. 40-60 minutes a day is about right for cardio. I also add some calisthenic type work. Sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, crunches and leg work. Diet is key and I don't mean going on a "diet" I mean changing your diet to clean and balanced. Make sure you are getting proper nutrition. Good fats (monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and some saturated, avoid trans-fats) Lean protein, complex carbs, low-fat dairy fresh fruits and veggies. Whole foods and grains.
