... hich not only interfere with the natural vaginal PH but which are also easily absorbed by the mucosa, not to mention they can easily cause irritation. Commercial tampons are also made from rayon, it is a fact that tampons increase risks of TSS, particularly if made from rayon. ... (18 replies)

... I just wanted to know how to make my own tampons. I totally agree with you Holly. I have never had a problem and I've never made any tampons out to be a problem. Check out my other posts. ... (18 replies)
... Thank you Louise. OK, I get how to "roll 'em up", but if you don't use material that is kind of stiff, how do you get them to go in? I'm thinking of guaze, sheet material, etc, but I can't think of anything that is "stiff" enough to go in easily without some kind of applicator. The only kind of material I can think of that would work is something starched within an inch of... (18 replies)

... Commercial pads are the pads that are widely available in stores, like Always and Kotex, these are made from synthetic material and contain chemicals, gel and bleach, when as other pads are made from cotton and generally don't include chemicals - so they are healthier, less chance of irritation and less of an environmental risk (although of course if you use disposable... ... hours at a stretch. There are several brands of commercial tampons that are unbleached or that do not use dioxin. They cost a little more, but the peace of mind is worth it to me. ... (18 replies)
... Louise, I hope you can see the irony of what you have posted there. Does that fact that they are 'home made' render these tampons magic, so when inserted into the vagina like commercial tampons, they do NOT absorb any natural moisture or introduce the same oxygen for fast-multiplying bacteria and prevent the vagina from being self cleaning? :D  :D (18 replies)
... No, sorry, you're the only one posting that information, it's not any sort of medical fact and the medical community isn't telling healthy women not to use tampons. Only you. If you have a vaginal infection, of course the advice is not to put anything in your vagina, but for any healthy woman there is nothing at all harmful about tampons. (18 replies)
... am a smoker as well.........and yes it is hard to quit. It is an addiction. I have battled it for many years. But, before I go worrying about throwing out my tampons because of fear of the health risk......I will focus on throwing out my cigarettes. They pose a MUCH MUCH larger health risk!!!!! ... ... But you smoke. Could you explain your above concern about tampons in light of that fact? ... (18 replies)
... Yes, tampons have their risk, but so does everything else in this world. We risk driving, flying in airplanes, breathing in all of the pollution, the things we eat, etc. ... (18 replies)

... Tampons have ruined or taken the lives of thousands of men, women and children, TSS, infections, cancer, infertility, misscarrage etc. I'd say is a pretty major thing for ruining someones life. Yes cigarettes are harmful too, I'd discourage anyone from smoking too, however smoking is an adiction, people can stop using tampons, people cannot stop being adicts. (18 replies)
... actually very very VERY FEW people die from tampons, not many. And that is usually from using them incorrectly and getting TSS, a very RARE thing. I would rather just go buy tampons in the store (hey what about the rayon free ones that were mentioned?)and it's true.. id rather just risk it... everything causes cancer or something else.. so there isn't too much else to do. (18 replies)
... I can't see how home made tampons can absorb as much as normal tampons. I'm not against either as I use store bought ones but I've always wondered how much it would absorb. ... (18 replies)
... You're free to make your own tampons or anything else you want, but I want to point out that the information about tampons being harmful is NOT true. Please don't believe everything you read on the internet, even though the person writing it makes it sound believable. ... (18 replies)
... i cant imagine getting them clean enough to reuse! sounds too tricky.. and also.. i thought tampons are only dangerous if used for over 8 hours.. that is how you can possibly get the rare TSS. ... (18 replies)
