Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

I was prescribed Lovenox, a daily injectable medication for 21 days. A nurse taught me how to do it (on either side of my stomach), plus there are online websites. Then I took 81mg of aspirin daily. Both were to prevent deep casein thrombosis or dvt's -- to prevent a blood clot from forming while I was fairly inactive while elevating my foot 23/7 for about 8 weeks.

In my second surgery, I started using Lovenox again, but after about a week, my doctor switched over earlier to aspirin. The shots are fairly easy and no big deal, but they do leave bruises on each side of your stomach area.

Good luck with your surgery!
