Foot & Ankle Problems Message Board

Foot & Ankle Problems Board Index

Thanks for replying! I have had two sets of x-rays since surgery, everything looks perfect with the bones..and the incisions have healed amazingly clean; I had right big toe bunionectomy, with a bone spur/flare removed from the outside of the same foot. So I have incisions along both sides of the same foot.

I also had a blood test two days ago to rule out infection..it came out normal.

The swelling seems to be underneath my foot, right under my toes...so that my foot feels really "thick"...if I would try to bend my toes or crinkle them..it feels like I wouldn't be able to because of the swelling. Foot looks normal in the morning, but after a full day, the swelling returns especially to that area on top of my foot, towards the toes.

I am taking it slow, but hoping for marked improvement. At least these message boards have really helped me feel better...I'm not the only one going through it!!

I am at 7 weeks post op for a bunion and bunionette removal on my left foot. I go to the doctor on April 1 to see if I can put any weight on my left foot. I am on crutches. I admit it is very depressing. Do you have any hobbies you can do? Unless you have gone through this you have no idea. I also went through this same surgery last September. I had trouble doing my Christmas shopping. All of my surgeries were very extensive and not typical. My doctor told me that is one year before you can be back to normal. Good luck!
I think swelling and a "thick" feeling on the bottom of your foot would be normal at 3 weeks. They do a lot of messing around with the tissue inside your foot during the surgery, and it takes longer to recover from that than for the bone to heal (according to the nurses in my doctor's office, anyway!). If you have no infection, you're in good shape. I started feeling better by 6 weeks and much better by 8 weeks. I still have swelling at 3 months (feels like a big blob under my joint when I walk) and have been told that some swelling will continue until about 6 months post surgery.
At the 3 month point, are you wearing normal shoes? Or is the swelling really terrible? Additionally, how did your incisions look after 3 months? Sorry for all the questions....
