I think you need to get a second opinion or ask your Doctor about this. From what I've heard about Lapidus on these forums, you should definitely be on crutches for 6 weeks to allow the bone to fuse back together and heal properly. This seems very shady that you would be walking immediately after, unless the Doctor told you the wrong name of the procedure by accident.

I had a base wedge osteotomy which is very similar to a Lapidus (they cut the bone at the base of the metatarsal, about 3 or 4 inches from my big toe and use a screw to fuse the bone back together) and I was on crutches for six weeks. Most procedures for moderate to severe bunions require crutches. I would definitely check this out before you have your surgery.

Another thing - usually Doctors that are affiliated with hospitals have better reputations because they are held to a higher standard, that of the hospital's standards. But, you still need to do your homework on your Doctor and make sure he is reputable and has been successful in the past. Did you do this yet?? I was lucky not to have any complications from my surgery but I have heard some horror stories and would not want to have foot problems for the rest of my life because of a botched surgery. You should consider canceling your surgery until you have everything checked out first.
