hi, only got the scan done, i dont know the results yet. i have not been checked for tmj, i will. i cant tell you how many people did not see fluid in my ears either, only the p.a.. all the ents said they looked fine. i have been diagnosed with mieneres, migraine, you name it, how about you? are you on hormones if so i did read they can affect your eustachian tubes. yes i get very anxious over this, i cant sleep at night, wake up dreading the next day. do you get migraines? what kind of noise do you get when you yawn? do you get rattling waving ear drums when you talk? my ears pop with just movement of my body, i live in v.a. there is a specialist in boston, i made an appointment with him, first ava was july first! i am going to see what this scan says and i will see what the other dr. has to say, go get checked for tmj, and on. i get this strange clicking sound when i talk, it sounds like it is comeing from the roof of my mouth off to one side, do you get that? hope we are both out of this mess soon! libby[/QUOT

No hormones. Only natural progesterone creams but this was there before that. No migraines either. Just clogged ears and vertigo driving me nuts. My jaw pops and dislocates. Mostly i hear my own voice in my ears when I talk how about you? I get where I hear my own breathing and heartbeat too. This is chinese water tortoure. I was told that muscle spasms are causing all of this crap. I do admit I feel the tension in my head and neck in the way of muscles like they cant rest. But I swear to God I have fluid in the ears. I can hear bubbles and it sounds like a sponge for lack of a better word, when I talk. Jst like there is a sponge in my ear that squishy sound, you know? The dizzy is the worst. Makes me real bad. I cant function. Kinda feels like my eustachian tubes are stuck together and are glued. Mostly on the right, but on the left too. I cant stand this anymore.....

i know what you are saying, my voice bothers me, my ear drums rattle when i talk, sounds like something sticky when i open my mouth wide, like they are being pulled apart. do you really think this is tmj related? i dont want to waste my time if it wont help. my ears pop for no good frickin reason, just move my head or mouth and there you go, and i have a clicking sound i think from the roof of my mouth, wonder if thats the tube opening and shuting or if its something in my jaw, my friend heard it yesterday!
i am so afraid i have pet, these symptoms match it, i wonder if it could be jaw related? when you talk do your ears vibrate also? i hate this and just want what ever it is to show up on the scan, i dont want to have to go all the way t boston to fix this, i cant believe what jack ups some doctors are.lib
hi, would that also cause you to feel your own breathing in your ears, and your eardrums to rattle while you are talking? any info would be greatly appricated! lib
Yes!

The purpose of the Eustachian tube - a small "tube" from the middle ear to the throat area is to equalize the pressure on either side of the ear drum.

This is why we pop the ears when climbing in an airplane - to equalize the pressure.

When this tube is blocked - for example, from swelling due to a cold - it sounds muffled. When this tube is kept open - from a spasm of the tiny muscle that controls it, then you may hear the rattling you describe
I checked out the other thread with aja. Yeah, the PEt sounds familiar but I was ruled out. Who knows. What is the treatment for that besides cauterization? That is a bit drastic in my opinion, and is there any turning back once it is finished? I think the click in the roof of your mouth is the sounds of the inside of your body magnified from the eustachian tube malfunction. I have that too. I hear my neck crunch when I turn my head magnified and my heart beat too. Breathing is loud and my voice sounds like a megaphone in my head. It is driving me to the brink...............I am loosing it I think. Now I put down the smokes because I think it was making it worse, so nicotine withdrawl too. Oh my God...........when will it end. Lib, I wish you lived close by. We could be best friends!!! Stay in touch and yeah I will read what aja has to say too.
Demi
demi , i am here to tell you we are up the creek, believe me they have to do alot more than just look at the e tube to know if it is patulous for sure, it takes a trained expert, and i believe thats what i have. i hear my neck crunch and every other sound going on in there. there are several ways to treat pet, none are a gaurentee, and of course they have there risks, and there are not many dr.s that treat it. do your ear drums move, at loud noise? if you want out of this hell you need to get to a really good dr. how far is johns hopkins from your house? it would be worth the trip. do you have the symptoms in both ears? do you get headaches? there is a book called heal your headache, might want to read it, i dont have the headaches, but you dont have to to have the symptoms in the ears. let me know what you think. lib
hi, when you say the antideprssants are hard to get on and off what do you mean? i am worried about that also. i have not tried to quit, i am to anxious to quit, maybe i will try to cut back this week and quit this weekend. i just at this point think i am doomed to this and really dont want to be on antidepressants either. why is it so hard for them to figure it out? do your ears pop randomly, just by bending over? i cant take the strange thumps and other wierd stuff, the rattling ear drumd and breathing into my ears and on and on. when you open your mouth does it sound like something is unsticking? what sensation do you get when you blow your nose? let me know these things please. hang in here! lib
oh...the antidepressant is effexor xr...know any thing about that one?
OH MAN!! Effexor??? That is some bad sh..! My friend just recently got off that stuff and she was in for a ride. A week of being sick as a dog. Get off it! How long have you been on this crap. That one is very hard to get off. It is an SSRI drug class, you cant quit this cold turkey especially if you been on it for a while. You have to wean very very slow. She ended up very ill when she stopped until the drug got out of her body and she is a 26 year old girl, young and healthy.
Yes, when I open my mouth my ears stick. That is why I started this thread called parched eustachian tubes. It feels like they are parched, like no moisture is in them. When I blow my nose, my ears get really loud and wont pop. Like I want to pop my ears and then my voice gets really loud in my head and all the sounds vibrate inside and out. Sometimes I cant tell where sounds come from when it gets like that. It is congestion! I know it is. Fluid, I can hear it move. Like glue. I bet you have glue ear!!! Day three, smoke free. Trying my best. When I wake in the morning the clogged ears are the worst. Are your ears clogged? Do you hear your own voice real loud inside like you have a bucket on your head? Let me know........
HI I am back to the board:
I do have mold allergies. Been tested with RAST and skin tests. All the molds especially aspergillus. The hives popped up so high on the skin test that I had to treat them with benedryl cream! Anytway, I wonder if this IS the source of the clogged ear symptoms I have suffered for one whole year of my life. I have tried all the stupid decongestants, the nasal steriods, etc and nothing works. I dont know what else to do, but I have autophony, I hear my own voice, heartbeat, breathing, sounds from inside my body, like my neck turning. Sounds like I am nuts, huh? But I am not I am completely sane. This Hell in my ears is driving me nuts. I am going to have an MRI of my jaw joint. To rule in or out TMJ. I saw a maxiofacial specialist last week and he said the joint is trashed. Whether or not that is the ear source, who knows. So then what do I do? Go the gammit of this guy with splints, braces, wisdom teeth extrations and then....................my ear is still clogged?? No one has given me a definate on this. Just "it may be the source". MAY??? That is nothing to hang my hat on. So on and on...........tomorrow is another day of this. Pathetic situation that we all have in our lives. Lib, I am back online. So I hope you are doing OK. Tata.
