trust me, i have been to 6 so far, and am going to another in a week and a half! do you have tinnitus?when i blow my nose it feels like my eardrums are sticking inside, i am going and wont stop till someone fixes this, i get a c.t. on friday, pray it shows something. did you lose any wieght before this started? do you have reflux by chance? hang in there! lib

hi, only got the scan done, i dont know the results yet. i have not been checked for tmj, i will. i cant tell you how many people did not see fluid in my ears either, only the p.a.. all the ents said they looked fine. i have been diagnosed with mieneres, migraine, you name it, how about you? are you on hormones if so i did read they can affect your eustachian tubes. yes i get very anxious over this, i cant sleep at night, wake up dreading the next day. do you get migraines? what kind of noise do you get when you yawn? do you get rattling waving ear drums when you talk? my ears pop with just movement of my body, i live in v.a. there is a specialist in boston, i made an appointment with him, first ava was july first! i am going to see what this scan says and i will see what the other dr. has to say, go get checked for tmj, and on. i get this strange clicking sound when i talk, it sounds like it is comeing from the roof of my mouth off to one side, do you get that? hope we are both out of this mess soon! libby[/QUOT

No hormones. Only natural progesterone creams but this was there before that. No migraines either. Just clogged ears and vertigo driving me nuts. My jaw pops and dislocates. Mostly i hear my own voice in my ears when I talk how about you? I get where I hear my own breathing and heartbeat too. This is chinese water tortoure. I was told that muscle spasms are causing all of this crap. I do admit I feel the tension in my head and neck in the way of muscles like they cant rest. But I swear to God I have fluid in the ears. I can hear bubbles and it sounds like a sponge for lack of a better word, when I talk. Jst like there is a sponge in my ear that squishy sound, you know? The dizzy is the worst. Makes me real bad. I cant function. Kinda feels like my eustachian tubes are stuck together and are glued. Mostly on the right, but on the left too. I cant stand this anymore.....
i know what you are saying, my voice bothers me, my ear drums rattle when i talk, sounds like something sticky when i open my mouth wide, like they are being pulled apart. do you really think this is tmj related? i dont want to waste my time if it wont help. my ears pop for no good frickin reason, just move my head or mouth and there you go, and i have a clicking sound i think from the roof of my mouth, wonder if thats the tube opening and shuting or if its something in my jaw, my friend heard it yesterday!
i am so afraid i have pet, these symptoms match it, i wonder if it could be jaw related? when you talk do your ears vibrate also? i hate this and just want what ever it is to show up on the scan, i dont want to have to go all the way t boston to fix this, i cant believe what jack ups some doctors are.lib

Lib: Jack ups is a nice word for what I am thinking about these doctors! Haha. Yeah..............I think you have TMJ!! I am no doctor, but you have alllllll the symptoms. It is known as the great imposter. It can do anything to your head that it feels like. The pop sound (and you gave it away by saying your friend heard it) is your jaw! Mine pops and dislocates and makes crunching sounds and yes, it can be heard by others if they stand close enough. Like a bone going out of a socket. It hooks to the eustachian tubes by a little muscle that is the same one when you yawn and it is all connected together. also there are 30% of your nerves go thru the jaw socket I beleive the major one is called the trimenginal nerve (dont know if I spelled it right) but it is a major branch to the face and neck and head. You can have what they call referred pain, from one place and feels like it is somewhere else. The feeling in the back of your throat is probably your jaw popping and dislocating. I have had it for a year and still have the symptoms. I have done alot of research on it, lost 6 grand, and been to as many ENT's as I can stomach. So far, nothing has helped me. I am literally going nuts. I cannot take this sound in my head everytime I talk and swollow and my heartbeat. When I lay down it subsides then when I stand it is back. One MD tells me he sees fluid in my ear and another says none in the same week. What is up with that??? I live close to Philly and we have some major hospitals around here, but I am not going to them because I think they will give me something else! Maybe cut off an arm or something stupid like that! Ha. Wait for your Ct results. Where did they take them from? I had one of the sinus and it was negative. I had a panoramic done of the jaw joint and it was negative too. Mine, is supposed to be muscle, ligament and nerve stuff. Soft tissue stuff. The more I freak out the more the spasms set in and the swelling starts inside my head. Everyone tells me I look great. They cant see it. I work out, and am in tip top shape. I am going into a competition for body building in May and am very strong but my head is rediculous. sometimes I feel I cant even lift the weights anymore from the anxiety and vertigo. Who knows, maybe for me that is making it worse, the clenching while I lift. I wont stop doing what I love. So, I have this xanax stuff around here and am going to give it a try. Maybe for me at least, if I calm down maybe my jaw and muscles will calm down too. Maybe you are anxious also. I bet you a dollar to a donut that you have TMJ. Sounds just like it. Patulous is another story. TMJ can mimic that as well as clogged ears. It can do a host of things to you. Burt Reynolds ended up in a room for 2 years with it. He almost lost his marbles and he wrote a book on it called "My Life". I read the chapters 49-51 where he describes his hell and it is unreal. He got hit in the face with a chair on a movie set and ended up dizzy and clogged ears for 2 years. He went to specialists all over the country including Philly, and no one helped him. One day he found a little dentist from Georgia I think, and the guy fixed him by repositioning his teeth. I do grind and clench in my sleep. I wonder if you do too. This is an utter nightmare. How do they treat it you may ask.......a splint or a nightguard for your mouth, soft food diet, anxiety meds, and basically not to much else. Maybe some advil. Insurance doesnt even cover it because they think it is just and "ailment". Yeah right, I cant even work with this Hell. I have a paralegal degree and cant even do that. So tell me if this fits the bill for you. Forget about the idiot in Boston. Wasting your time, dear friend. Believe me. Look into TMJ. Go to a local dentist in your phone book and ask if they treat TMJ. Start there, and get an opinion. Then go from there after your CT comes back of course. See what that says first. But I pretty much will be surprised if anything shows up, but I dont know you of course. Hang in there. and let me know how you are doing. I am misreable everyday. My husband has been unsupportive and have had to go alone. My kids are grown and have their lives to lead. It is just up to me. Hold tight and take my advice........

hi,
well i am here for you, if your husband is not.
i will check the tmj route, but the clicking sound is coming from the roof of my mouth, kinda in the sinus. i think it is the e. tube. i think mine are to open, 2 dr.s have said that. can you breath air up into your ears? i will try or do anything to get out of this hell, even boston, he specializes in eustachian tube problems. hope i can find out something on mon about the results. i pray if that is what it is it shows up. do your ears pop while you are laying down? everytime i swallow it is loud, how bout you? i saw on one of your posts you quit smoking, how did you do that? i am trying. hang in there, between the two of us we will get this figured out! lib
hi, i get the clicking also, thats exactly what i think that noise is. i went back yesterday also and he is still thinks it is migraine related. i am frustrated, he also gave me a script for antidepresants. my dx is migraine associated vertigo, and i am going to hopkins, they are the best, my dr. is wonderful, very compassionate and he spends time with me and he cares, he knows i am miserable. the theory is i am hypersensitive to the noise in my ears. i still think my eustachian tubes are to open, and there is no explanation for the snapping sound in my face. so i am doing the migraine diet and praying that if my e tubes are to open he will figure it out soon, i dont see him again until may. i really cant live like this and i dont know what else to do. hang in there! lib
Hi Lib: So, they treated you the same as me.Antidepressents..........when they dont know, that is what they do. What about the TMJ theory for you? That cant do alot of havoc. I am seeing a TMJ specialist on Thur. and this will be the second one of that kind. I have seen numerous ENT's and MD's internists, you name it. Bottom line with me, fluid in the right ear, some in the left, swollen sinuses, clicking popping TMJ, who knows what is causing all this crap, so antibiotics failed. Not infected..........wish it was, just take a pill for 10 days and it is over with. No luck for me. Saga continues, on nasal steriods nasacort, taking robitussin every 4 hours for mucous congestion. Do you have congestion? Maybe you do and dont realize that. That wont show up on any scan. Theory with me is the TMJ is bad, causing muscle spasm in the eustachian tube, causing that to swell, causing mucous to collect causing "glue ear or serus otitis". Spills into the sinus regions and then the anxiety of course. So how to deal with this crap??????????????? I dont know anymore. Vertigo is awful. That is the worst for me anyway. Then the clogged ears..........I hate this. Do you smoke? I do and I think that is making it worse. I am trying to quit but it is hard. Best of Luck, Lib..........
Thanks Blondee15: I was tested for allergies and big time mold came up on the RAST and skin ***** tests. I had my house tested for mold and nothing was unusual, and it was equal to or below the outside environment, so fixing any mold in crawl spaces etc. would be a waste of money for me. I have tried all the allergy meds and nothing seems to help. The fluid comes and goes and I am currently taking xanax for anxiety because the muscles go into spasm in the the face, neck and head from this chonic pressure and clogged sensation in the ears. Regardless, If I have fluid, or not, (and it has been seen both ways), it still feels the same. That is the wierd part. So when I take the xanax, it seems to abate a little. So I am wondering if it is muscle spasms and anxieties to the point of self inflicting this pain? Your thoughts?

You know what's funny..my highest allergic reaction was to DOGS..yet i've NEVER felt like I had a reaction to a dog before, i've had a dog before for years, my sister brings her dog over all the time..how weird is that? Allergy tests aren't 100% accurate, i've heard of people coming up negative for years before testing positive & having a high reaction to everything. I don't know how long the fluid is in my ears, no doctor has seen it yet..but I figure if my new allergist sees it still in 2 months, it's prolly been there the entire time & I'm gonna push for ear tubes.
Have you given the allergy meds at least a month each to work fully? Nasal steroid sprays can take even up to a year to see full results, so be patient. Inner ear fluid can cause dizziness & can certainly cause one to panic if ya think about it. Have you had a CBC? That could show an allergic reaction, or alot of other things. This is a stab in the dark but maybe you could see an infectious disease specialist? Who knows it could be an infection of some sort. Or maybe a hematologist to check for blood disorders?
What i've found out about myself is that inner ear fluid accumulates as a result of eustachian tube dysfunction, meaning the tube swells up & fluid gets stuck everywhere & don't drain. Are ear tubes an option for you? What allergy meds have you tried? Sometimes it takes a while to find the right combination & sometimes you have 2 take basically all of them to find results. Have you done a prednisone burst? I've never had muscle spasms in my face, when the pain is at it's worst, it's a raw feeling & I can feel the fluid dripping around slowly..how gross is that. It'll pound & give me a headache. Usually when it's really bad, my throat will swell up also & be sore & my sinuses will be very clogged & my nose will be runny. I have non allergic triggers also..strong smells, etc etc can trigger an allergic reaction in some people. And remember..there are several things that can cause an allergic reaction that can't be tested. Keep looking for a better doctor...you've got 2 find one eventually!
Tanya: You have classic TMJ symptoms and TMJD. That is what I have. It involves the muscles, ligaments and nerves and the blood flow to the area. The wierdo sensations are from things not working in sync and therefore, it is a trickle down effect. I have the same nonsence. I had my splint adjusted yesterday and my ears clogged so bad last night that if I had a set of testicular muscles, I would stick a barbecue scewer in my ears and pop the damn things. I cant believe that they say I have no fluid in there either. I did at one point. It sounds like I have a tin bucket on my head and the vision is blurry and vertigo and clogged ears are relentless. I am on Ativan and they want me on Lexapro for a month. Dont know when an end is in sight. I cant imagine living like this for the rest of my life. I just cant........The dizzy is the worst. Cant think straight........bright lights cant deal, cant deal with people, and am very sad all the time where I used to be a happy funny human with alot of friends and community involvement. Now my marriage is ruined, I have no life, I just pound wieghts every single day, I look good, but I dont feel like a human. I feel like a shell of one..............Gee i am crying right now! I am sorry Tanya that we are like this.............why cant they help us?
I think I'm in the beginning stages of what you have. It started in the left ear and was accompanied by tinnitus. It is now worst in my right ear and, when I move my jaw, I can hear a swishing sound. My hearing is fine. My ears just have a clogged feeling all of the time and the left ear tinnitus and clogged feeling in both ears never goes away. I believe this is also leading to severe headaches that a neurologist diagnosed as migraines. The ENT says it is Eustachian Tube Disorder caused by a swollen septum (nose) due to significant allergies. This all happened about the same time we got 2 new puppies. However allergy shots have not helped. Moving my jaw causes a crackling sound in both ears. Feels like I'm on an airplane all of the time. The right ear has a cold, wet feeling behind the eardrum.

Is this the beginning of what you have?
