Yes.....the same. I am very dizzy right now. Tried to pay bills online and feel faint right now. This is killing me.........I have a very strong and healthy body. I am in great shape.............everyone tells me I look great, not my age at all. I am a mom of two grown kids, I have a life, but not anymore. I am dizzy, my ears are clogged and i have major anxiety. It has ruined my marriage, on and on. I dont know where to turn anymore. I have taken robitussin this morning and it just makes more mucous. My head sounds like i have echos in it. constantly. My ears feel like sponges are in the tubes. That is how I describe it. Bubbles and fullness and junk in there. Are you dizzy with it???? Vertigo is horrible for me.
i had some dizzy spells back at the end of sept, after that i just felt motion sick sometimes all night, i could feel fluid in my ears last fall but i dont feel it anymore, but still have the rest of the symptoms, i cant take the ear drums rattling when i talk, the popping while i am talking and on and on...i am sorry this has ruined your marriage, that sucks, its not right. did you have a cold before all thid started? are you on any hormones? my life is non existant now, i can stand noise, do your ears jump at noise? eardrums move to it? sorry its been bad for you, maybe i will learn something from one of these docs that will help us both. are you able to work through this?lib
hi, would that also cause you to feel your own breathing in your ears, and your eardrums to rattle while you are talking? any info would be greatly appricated! lib
Yes!

The purpose of the Eustachian tube - a small "tube" from the middle ear to the throat area is to equalize the pressure on either side of the ear drum.

This is why we pop the ears when climbing in an airplane - to equalize the pressure.

When this tube is blocked - for example, from swelling due to a cold - it sounds muffled. When this tube is kept open - from a spasm of the tiny muscle that controls it, then you may hear the rattling you describe
Sooooooo, you do have fluid!!! That changes everything when it comes to PET! You have exactly what I have. Only one doctor saw fluid in me too, and I went to 5 ENT's MDs etc. I made this last guy explain exactly what he saw so that I could see if he matched what he saw with what I felt and he did exactly. He said the left was somewhat congested and the right was taken out! I said yup! So then he told me what it looked like with a model ear and the color and everything involved so I believe he saw fluid. That means that you must have "glue ear or serus otitis like me! It is supposed to take a long time to go away and is the result of a cold, allergy or smoking. Somewhere down the line the lining of the eustachian tube got humiliated and the cycle began. I swear smoking is making it worse. I am going to stop tonight. I had the last one and now I can withdrawl and be a maniac even more! At least I go to my little hole in the wall gym and bang iron! Nice of you to invite me. That would be nice if all else fails. I live about 3 hours from Baltimore. Have been there, visited and did the tourist thing. Nice city. The peir is nice with all that stuff there like the aquarium and all. Well, anyway, I do think you have glue ear like me!!! Research it and tell me what you think. Just type in glue ear and or serus otitis there is alot of information on it. Mainly the treatment is time. If time doesnt work, then tubes like little kids get. That is why the drugs dont work, cause the fluid is so freaken thick that is cant move anyway because the tubes are inflamed. Try not to smoke!! Lets do that together and see what happens. I am here.......Lib. Take care, talk to ya tomorrow. Going to bed now, and lay my dumb head down for the night. Tata....
Demi
demi,
the fluid is long gone, i dont feel it anymore, and now it feels hollow, noise reverberates in my ears and i can breath right into both ears....mind you i also lost 10 lbs in the fall fast and that i think caused it to reverse, i have looked up the others, i wish it were the case, i have had my ears looked at under microscopes and they are clear, even the dr. that saw the fluid in the ears says it is gone. so....its migraine related....or pet, i think its pet, i am not a dr. but we are not suppose to be able to get air in our ears! what do you think of this migraine theory? do you think he is right, they are suppose to be the best dr.s, thats why i went, regaurdless, i really do like him and the human being he is, he is not your average dr., he is genuine and that is so important, there are not many like him and if they all cared the way he does this world would be so much better, in fact i would be better by now, the others just did not care. hang in there, and think about going to hopkins, i might be the answer for you. lib
o.k. i am home, he said it is to hard to tell if it is to open or just dysfunctioning, so back to square one, he mentioned tubes, and he said they can always go in and sew the e tube up a little, dont know, i cant believe there are no answers out there for sure, guess i will go on the meds so i dont frickin lose my marbles and pray that my good dr. will help me, otherwise it is boston for me in july and i dont want to have to do all that. what do you think? lib
My advise to you is do not cut anything until you have cold hard facts in your hands, not just suppositions. I was told months ago to get tubes and then another guy said no way. First I would do nasal cort, robitussin and stop smoking. I hate to say that, as a smoker and jonesing for one right now, that i think the smoke is screwing up our ears. I think you have glue ear!!! I swear to god. You dont have PET. I do not think you do. You have tomany of my symptoms. Try the antidepressant. What kind? Antianxiety or antidepressant. I am not going to take antidepressants. They suck. Hard to get off and hard to get on. I am going to try xanax just a chip at a time to calm me down from the muscle spasms in the face head and neck. I am still on the antibiotic, which isnt working, and cant mix the two. So a glass of wine is cool right now for that in the evening. Forget about July. Just try to stop smoking even for three days and see how your ear feels. I swear mine is different in 24 hours. You have to try. Have you tried it yet??? I smoke alot. I have since age 15 and have great lungs. I can smoke all I want but now I cant because of my ears, not my lungs. So I have to stop. That is that. Just try.........just one day. See what happens. I eat lollipops all day long. Suck on the stick and everything to try and get over the hump. I can go 3-4 days and then I flip out, and buy the stupid things and then I cry when I light up because i know I am hurting my ears again. Then it gets worse, the clogg gets worse and then I quit again. I know smokes are hurting my ears. I have to stop. Try libby, just try it. Forget about the stupid doctors. Listen to your body and try. We can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, when you say the antideprssants are hard to get on and off what do you mean? i am worried about that also. i have not tried to quit, i am to anxious to quit, maybe i will try to cut back this week and quit this weekend. i just at this point think i am doomed to this and really dont want to be on antidepressants either. why is it so hard for them to figure it out? do your ears pop randomly, just by bending over? i cant take the strange thumps and other wierd stuff, the rattling ear drumd and breathing into my ears and on and on. when you open your mouth does it sound like something is unsticking? what sensation do you get when you blow your nose? let me know these things please. hang in here! lib
oh...the antidepressant is effexor xr...know any thing about that one?

OH MAN!! Effexor??? That is some bad sh..! My friend just recently got off that stuff and she was in for a ride. A week of being sick as a dog. Get off it! How long have you been on this crap. That one is very hard to get off. It is an SSRI drug class, you cant quit this cold turkey especially if you been on it for a while. You have to wean very very slow. She ended up very ill when she stopped until the drug got out of her body and she is a 26 year old girl, young and healthy.
Yes, when I open my mouth my ears stick. That is why I started this thread called parched eustachian tubes. It feels like they are parched, like no moisture is in them. When I blow my nose, my ears get really loud and wont pop. Like I want to pop my ears and then my voice gets really loud in my head and all the sounds vibrate inside and out. Sometimes I cant tell where sounds come from when it gets like that. It is congestion! I know it is. Fluid, I can hear it move. Like glue. I bet you have glue ear!!! Day three, smoke free. Trying my best. When I wake in the morning the clogged ears are the worst. Are your ears clogged? Do you hear your own voice real loud inside like you have a bucket on your head? Let me know........

hi,
yes for the most part but a little different, my ear drums rattle when i talk and i can feel air going up in them, how bout you? i have not started the meds, can you find out how much your friend was taking? when you swallow does it sound loud and feel like a huge bubble going into the ears?
I see you've both been banned...but I hope your still reading this anyway.
Have they never once considered allergies?????
That surprises me!
I have pretty severe Eustachian Tube Dysfunction brought about by allergies. Meaning my entire ET track will be swollen..first my sinuses, get sinus headaches, runny nose, sneezing, then my ears, pressure & pain, can't pop it out, muffled hearing, then when its really bad..my throat gets sore and swollen, sometimes 2 the point where I can't eat. In the past few years i've had dangerous throat infections..ones that have left me dehydrated b/c I couldn't eat or drink my throat was swollen 2 begin with, then it swelled an outrageous amount with the infection. I have had 2 switch medications several times b/c my throat is constantly swollen & I can't take most pills unless they are advil size or smaller. I was on Allegra in the beginning 4 all this, but it got 2 big 2 be swallowed..now I am on Clarinex. In the beginning I had sinus infections all the time, then I started feeling like I had ear infections..it was actually ETD from the imbalance of pressure between my sinuses and ears. I've been on Flonase, Clarinex, Singulair daily which helps a ton 2 keep me better, then Sudafed 4 flare ups. If I'm having a severe allergy flare up(generally i'll have hives/rashes & asthma problems also) then prednisone usually helps. I'm constantly congested & my ears hurt almost everyday. I do get dizzy when I get sinus infections or a cold you know why dizziness happens..when the sinuses under your eyes are full, they cause dizziness. So i've heard. I have a few ideas of what I know i'm allergic 2 by trial & error & observation(dust, pollen, mold, trees/grass, various skin allergies) but I am not able 2 be allergy tested(2 bad of skin allergies) which makes shots out of the question also. I've noticed so far the WORST feeling is when you feel the mucus dripping down your ET..from your ear past your nose 2 your throat..its just like you wanna reach in somehow and scratch it! ahhhh sorry 2 be gross but i'm sure you have the same thing. When i'm not doing well also I notice that I wake up with uneven pressure on my ears depending on what side I sleep on. Flonase & Clarinex are VITAL 2 maintain at least me being able 2 get up in the morning and feel somewhat ok at least. So they do help. But during some bad allergy attacks or sickness nothing helps. I thinky ou both should consult an allergist and have allergy testing done..or have an IgE count 2 see if allergies is the culprit. That could be why they aren't seein anything. Also it could very well stil lbe sinusitis..it coudl be that it's deep in the sinuses, and very backed up..IV antibiotics & sinuneb coudl help. Just some thoughts. Hope I helped you guys..!

Kind of..it's more of like a really tight, congested feeling when talking, my ears always pop & crackle. I don't think my ET is open enough 2 breath air into it lol..
having a bad nite 2nite. Can't breathe through one side of my nose at all, only barely through the other side. Got so frustrated earlier I almost started crying..though I think I have a cold(already second one this year!). There has 2 be something i'm missing here. It just doesn't add up..
I'm hoping I can get my immune system checked soon b/c i'm starting 2 think i'm immunocompromised & that I have other immune imbalances as well. Also I want 2 see if I qualify 4 ear tubes or sinus surgery..I can't take almost all the medication out there for this & still be suffering!
Sorry i'm not nearly as optimistic as I was earlier now. Just kind of frustrated.
I have been contemplating trying Atrovent for the nose(supposedly dries up everything) or Nasalcrom(stops the allergic process)..Atrovent is a prescription though so I don't know. I don't know if I should see an ENT(haven't yet) or an allergist(but I can't be tested anyway)..I've got asthma & skin allergies so this all just sucks..
But I feel weird going 2 the doctor for sinus/ear problems. It really affects my life everyday, I just feel like he's not gonna take me seroiusly. I wasn't like this until about a month ago when I saw a pulmonologist 4 my asthma who completely disregarded me & my problems, he told me nothing was wrong! So why are my lungs so sick all the time? I just feel bad now, like my problems aren't important. I don't know.
Sorry had 2 get some stuff out.

you need to find a good ent who can help you figure this all out, i am sure there has to be something out there that will work for you. have you had a c.t. of your sinuses? you may have a blockage or something. find a good ent and start with that, good luck!lib
I think I'm in the beginning stages of what you have. It started in the left ear and was accompanied by tinnitus. It is now worst in my right ear and, when I move my jaw, I can hear a swishing sound. My hearing is fine. My ears just have a clogged feeling all of the time and the left ear tinnitus and clogged feeling in both ears never goes away. I believe this is also leading to severe headaches that a neurologist diagnosed as migraines. The ENT says it is Eustachian Tube Disorder caused by a swollen septum (nose) due to significant allergies. This all happened about the same time we got 2 new puppies. However allergy shots have not helped. Moving my jaw causes a crackling sound in both ears. Feels like I'm on an airplane all of the time. The right ear has a cold, wet feeling behind the eardrum.

Is this the beginning of what you have?
oh my god. please write me back. This is really making me insane. I can't live like this. I think it's PET and I can't face it. What the hell...totally can't take it. Hear my own voice and breath..all the syptoms of PET. Last year I had Ottis Media. I have never been the same. Headaches...everyday for a year. Then when I though it was bad it got worse. 1 month ago I got a cold. My left ear plugged like glue. I was sure it was mucous and would just go away. Now I went to 2 ENT's...the first said no fluid and it would just go away. The second ear specialist said ...you have PET...all the decongest meds will make things worse. Get off of them ...and get on premarin nose drops ( a female hormone)...to make this all worse. I need my ears as I am a composer/songwriter as profession. I have so much anxiety and discomfort I don't know what to do.....really as bad as this all sounds...it's worse than you can imagine...unless you have this.........i have been to the doctors at least 70 times last year....otherwise I was in great health. I am 40 and now..i feel as though this is it ...
