hi,
i am having the same problems, i have had all sorts of wird symptoms through this, going to a specialist on wed. has any one here lost wiegt recently? do you get popping and crackling or feel like there is mucous in your ears? thanks lib
Yes.....the same. I am very dizzy right now. Tried to pay bills online and feel faint right now. This is killing me.........I have a very strong and healthy body. I am in great shape.............everyone tells me I look great, not my age at all. I am a mom of two grown kids, I have a life, but not anymore. I am dizzy, my ears are clogged and i have major anxiety. It has ruined my marriage, on and on. I dont know where to turn anymore. I have taken robitussin this morning and it just makes more mucous. My head sounds like i have echos in it. constantly. My ears feel like sponges are in the tubes. That is how I describe it. Bubbles and fullness and junk in there. Are you dizzy with it???? Vertigo is horrible for me.
i had some dizzy spells back at the end of sept, after that i just felt motion sick sometimes all night, i could feel fluid in my ears last fall but i dont feel it anymore, but still have the rest of the symptoms, i cant take the ear drums rattling when i talk, the popping while i am talking and on and on...i am sorry this has ruined your marriage, that sucks, its not right. did you have a cold before all thid started? are you on any hormones? my life is non existant now, i can stand noise, do your ears jump at noise? eardrums move to it? sorry its been bad for you, maybe i will learn something from one of these docs that will help us both. are you able to work through this?lib
i know what you are saying, my voice bothers me, my ear drums rattle when i talk, sounds like something sticky when i open my mouth wide, like they are being pulled apart. do you really think this is tmj related? i dont want to waste my time if it wont help. my ears pop for no good frickin reason, just move my head or mouth and there you go, and i have a clicking sound i think from the roof of my mouth, wonder if thats the tube opening and shuting or if its something in my jaw, my friend heard it yesterday!
i am so afraid i have pet, these symptoms match it, i wonder if it could be jaw related? when you talk do your ears vibrate also? i hate this and just want what ever it is to show up on the scan, i dont want to have to go all the way t boston to fix this, i cant believe what jack ups some doctors are.lib
Lib: Jack ups is a nice word for what I am thinking about these doctors! Haha. Yeah..............I think you have TMJ!! I am no doctor, but you have alllllll the symptoms. It is known as the great imposter. It can do anything to your head that it feels like. The pop sound (and you gave it away by saying your friend heard it) is your jaw! Mine pops and dislocates and makes crunching sounds and yes, it can be heard by others if they stand close enough. Like a bone going out of a socket. It hooks to the eustachian tubes by a little muscle that is the same one when you yawn and it is all connected together. also there are 30% of your nerves go thru the jaw socket I beleive the major one is called the trimenginal nerve (dont know if I spelled it right) but it is a major branch to the face and neck and head. You can have what they call referred pain, from one place and feels like it is somewhere else. The feeling in the back of your throat is probably your jaw popping and dislocating. I have had it for a year and still have the symptoms. I have done alot of research on it, lost 6 grand, and been to as many ENT's as I can stomach. So far, nothing has helped me. I am literally going nuts. I cannot take this sound in my head everytime I talk and swollow and my heartbeat. When I lay down it subsides then when I stand it is back. One MD tells me he sees fluid in my ear and another says none in the same week. What is up with that??? I live close to Philly and we have some major hospitals around here, but I am not going to them because I think they will give me something else! Maybe cut off an arm or something stupid like that! Ha. Wait for your Ct results. Where did they take them from? I had one of the sinus and it was negative. I had a panoramic done of the jaw joint and it was negative too. Mine, is supposed to be muscle, ligament and nerve stuff. Soft tissue stuff. The more I freak out the more the spasms set in and the swelling starts inside my head. Everyone tells me I look great. They cant see it. I work out, and am in tip top shape. I am going into a competition for body building in May and am very strong but my head is rediculous. sometimes I feel I cant even lift the weights anymore from the anxiety and vertigo. Who knows, maybe for me that is making it worse, the clenching while I lift. I wont stop doing what I love. So, I have this xanax stuff around here and am going to give it a try. Maybe for me at least, if I calm down maybe my jaw and muscles will calm down too. Maybe you are anxious also. I bet you a dollar to a donut that you have TMJ. Sounds just like it. Patulous is another story. TMJ can mimic that as well as clogged ears. It can do a host of things to you. Burt Reynolds ended up in a room for 2 years with it. He almost lost his marbles and he wrote a book on it called "My Life". I read the chapters 49-51 where he describes his hell and it is unreal. He got hit in the face with a chair on a movie set and ended up dizzy and clogged ears for 2 years. He went to specialists all over the country including Philly, and no one helped him. One day he found a little dentist from Georgia I think, and the guy fixed him by repositioning his teeth. I do grind and clench in my sleep. I wonder if you do too. This is an utter nightmare. How do they treat it you may ask.......a splint or a nightguard for your mouth, soft food diet, anxiety meds, and basically not to much else. Maybe some advil. Insurance doesnt even cover it because they think it is just and "ailment". Yeah right, I cant even work with this Hell. I have a paralegal degree and cant even do that. So tell me if this fits the bill for you. Forget about the idiot in Boston. Wasting your time, dear friend. Believe me. Look into TMJ. Go to a local dentist in your phone book and ask if they treat TMJ. Start there, and get an opinion. Then go from there after your CT comes back of course. See what that says first. But I pretty much will be surprised if anything shows up, but I dont know you of course. Hang in there. and let me know how you are doing. I am misreable everyday. My husband has been unsupportive and have had to go alone. My kids are grown and have their lives to lead. It is just up to me. Hold tight and take my advice........

hi,
well i am here for you, if your husband is not.
i will check the tmj route, but the clicking sound is coming from the roof of my mouth, kinda in the sinus. i think it is the e. tube. i think mine are to open, 2 dr.s have said that. can you breath air up into your ears? i will try or do anything to get out of this hell, even boston, he specializes in eustachian tube problems. hope i can find out something on mon about the results. i pray if that is what it is it shows up. do your ears pop while you are laying down? everytime i swallow it is loud, how bout you? i saw on one of your posts you quit smoking, how did you do that? i am trying. hang in there, between the two of us we will get this figured out! lib
hi,
i think they have to have you talk and there are more tests than that to determin that. hopefully this next doctor will take the time. when you swallow is it loud? does it sound like fluid is going back up into your ears? are we allowed to post our phone numbers? or e mail addresses? do you hear anything in your ears at night? lib
Lib: Dont post your phone number or email. Idont think you are allowed to do that. Somehow there has to be a way for people to meet aside from this board to discuss their problems. Yes, it sounds like fluid is backing up into the tubes. Yes, I hear sounds at night. Sometimes it feels like I have a tin bucket on my head when I talk. Like I am in a tunnel or an echo. The popping sound in the back of your throat or top of roof of mouth is probably the eustachian tubes for me like they are stuck together and have to pop open. Or it can be the jaw. Hard for me to say. Do you take any antianxiety drugs? I have xanax but I havent taken it. I am afraid of side effects. I am going back to the MD on thursday for an earcheck. He doesnt know I was off the aquatab for a week. I am trying to drink tons of water to thin out the mucous. Who knows, water is the elixir of life..........the healer. Drink water, Libby!
hi, i get the clicking also, thats exactly what i think that noise is. i went back yesterday also and he is still thinks it is migraine related. i am frustrated, he also gave me a script for antidepresants. my dx is migraine associated vertigo, and i am going to hopkins, they are the best, my dr. is wonderful, very compassionate and he spends time with me and he cares, he knows i am miserable. the theory is i am hypersensitive to the noise in my ears. i still think my eustachian tubes are to open, and there is no explanation for the snapping sound in my face. so i am doing the migraine diet and praying that if my e tubes are to open he will figure it out soon, i dont see him again until may. i really cant live like this and i dont know what else to do. hang in there! lib
Hi Lib: So, they treated you the same as me.Antidepressents..........when they dont know, that is what they do. What about the TMJ theory for you? That cant do alot of havoc. I am seeing a TMJ specialist on Thur. and this will be the second one of that kind. I have seen numerous ENT's and MD's internists, you name it. Bottom line with me, fluid in the right ear, some in the left, swollen sinuses, clicking popping TMJ, who knows what is causing all this crap, so antibiotics failed. Not infected..........wish it was, just take a pill for 10 days and it is over with. No luck for me. Saga continues, on nasal steriods nasacort, taking robitussin every 4 hours for mucous congestion. Do you have congestion? Maybe you do and dont realize that. That wont show up on any scan. Theory with me is the TMJ is bad, causing muscle spasm in the eustachian tube, causing that to swell, causing mucous to collect causing "glue ear or serus otitis". Spills into the sinus regions and then the anxiety of course. So how to deal with this crap??????????????? I dont know anymore. Vertigo is awful. That is the worst for me anyway. Then the clogged ears..........I hate this. Do you smoke? I do and I think that is making it worse. I am trying to quit but it is hard. Best of Luck, Lib..........

hi,
yes i smoke, i bet that makes it far worse. i dont think mine is congestion, i think it is to open, no one will listen to me and i am in despair, i will have to take the meds, i am afraid i will never get out of this depression, it is aweful. i am going to a great dr. i really like him, he is the best dr. i have ever seen, bedside manner and all. i just wish i knew if i had pet or not. i think i do! i cant take much more of this ! when you breath in deep can you get air into your ears? hear your self breath? we both need this to end! libby
I see you've both been banned...but I hope your still reading this anyway.
Have they never once considered allergies?????
That surprises me!
I have pretty severe Eustachian Tube Dysfunction brought about by allergies. Meaning my entire ET track will be swollen..first my sinuses, get sinus headaches, runny nose, sneezing, then my ears, pressure & pain, can't pop it out, muffled hearing, then when its really bad..my throat gets sore and swollen, sometimes 2 the point where I can't eat. In the past few years i've had dangerous throat infections..ones that have left me dehydrated b/c I couldn't eat or drink my throat was swollen 2 begin with, then it swelled an outrageous amount with the infection. I have had 2 switch medications several times b/c my throat is constantly swollen & I can't take most pills unless they are advil size or smaller. I was on Allegra in the beginning 4 all this, but it got 2 big 2 be swallowed..now I am on Clarinex. In the beginning I had sinus infections all the time, then I started feeling like I had ear infections..it was actually ETD from the imbalance of pressure between my sinuses and ears. I've been on Flonase, Clarinex, Singulair daily which helps a ton 2 keep me better, then Sudafed 4 flare ups. If I'm having a severe allergy flare up(generally i'll have hives/rashes & asthma problems also) then prednisone usually helps. I'm constantly congested & my ears hurt almost everyday. I do get dizzy when I get sinus infections or a cold you know why dizziness happens..when the sinuses under your eyes are full, they cause dizziness. So i've heard. I have a few ideas of what I know i'm allergic 2 by trial & error & observation(dust, pollen, mold, trees/grass, various skin allergies) but I am not able 2 be allergy tested(2 bad of skin allergies) which makes shots out of the question also. I've noticed so far the WORST feeling is when you feel the mucus dripping down your ET..from your ear past your nose 2 your throat..its just like you wanna reach in somehow and scratch it! ahhhh sorry 2 be gross but i'm sure you have the same thing. When i'm not doing well also I notice that I wake up with uneven pressure on my ears depending on what side I sleep on. Flonase & Clarinex are VITAL 2 maintain at least me being able 2 get up in the morning and feel somewhat ok at least. So they do help. But during some bad allergy attacks or sickness nothing helps. I thinky ou both should consult an allergist and have allergy testing done..or have an IgE count 2 see if allergies is the culprit. That could be why they aren't seein anything. Also it could very well stil lbe sinusitis..it coudl be that it's deep in the sinuses, and very backed up..IV antibiotics & sinuneb coudl help. Just some thoughts. Hope I helped you guys..!
hi, been tested for allergies, only dust and dustmites. i am on nasonex and claratin and it has not helped all this ear stuff. do you get reverberation in your ears? how bout rattling ear drums when talking, popping crackling and thumping? i dont know if it is edt or pet, i can breath air into my ears can you? thanks for all your info, may try the clarinex ! lib

Kind of..it's more of like a really tight, congested feeling when talking, my ears always pop & crackle. I don't think my ET is open enough 2 breath air into it lol..
having a bad nite 2nite. Can't breathe through one side of my nose at all, only barely through the other side. Got so frustrated earlier I almost started crying..though I think I have a cold(already second one this year!). There has 2 be something i'm missing here. It just doesn't add up..
I'm hoping I can get my immune system checked soon b/c i'm starting 2 think i'm immunocompromised & that I have other immune imbalances as well. Also I want 2 see if I qualify 4 ear tubes or sinus surgery..I can't take almost all the medication out there for this & still be suffering!
Sorry i'm not nearly as optimistic as I was earlier now. Just kind of frustrated.
I have been contemplating trying Atrovent for the nose(supposedly dries up everything) or Nasalcrom(stops the allergic process)..Atrovent is a prescription though so I don't know. I don't know if I should see an ENT(haven't yet) or an allergist(but I can't be tested anyway)..I've got asthma & skin allergies so this all just sucks..
But I feel weird going 2 the doctor for sinus/ear problems. It really affects my life everyday, I just feel like he's not gonna take me seroiusly. I wasn't like this until about a month ago when I saw a pulmonologist 4 my asthma who completely disregarded me & my problems, he told me nothing was wrong! So why are my lungs so sick all the time? I just feel bad now, like my problems aren't important. I don't know.
Sorry had 2 get some stuff out.
