Hearing Disorders Message Board

Hearing Disorders Board Index

This just crossed my mind, as I'm sick with a cold and have slight ear pain in both ears. All of my life I've had ear infections just about every year...

Anyway, everytime I get them 2 things a doctor told me when I was really young kind of lurks in my mind, and I wonder if these things are true, and why he said them?

The first one, he told me not to chew gum. I could never figure this one out, but I stopped chewing gum for a very long time and didn't have problems with my ears.

The 2nd one, I was told not to sniffle so much when I had a runny nose. The only sense this made to me was pressure in the ears.

Anyone have any comments or truths on those 2 statements? I always wondered the truth of them, and why!
