Hearing Disorders Board Index

Lib, how can I read your post? I would like to know your experience with the ENT. I am new to this board and have had issues with my ear for over 10 yrs now. In that time I had about 2 yrs "off"..no probs..you mention that ENTs know nothing and I wonder myself. I recently had an MRI due to a series of symptoms in my left ear: autophony (my own voice echoes in my head when I talk, breathing sounds like wind blowing past a window) These almost exclusively happen when I sing. They will go away when I bend over and touch my nose almost to my knee. Usually when I stand up or swallow again it comes back. Anyway, I gave my symptoms to the MD I went to who is a specialist in my state along with the fact that I am on birth control pills for hormone balance and have lost 40 lb over the past 9 mos. I left his office with no diagnosis, no resolve just the assurance that I don't have any tumors or MS or life threatening anything...maybe I can live with it? It doesnt seem to be a big issue to some MDs I guess that hearing problems ARE problems..I can't sing in my choir anymore or in the music group I sing in to entertain..
When I got home I searched all over the web and found a condition called Patulous Eustachian tube..it describes me to a T..including that it can result from hormone therapy including birth control pills and weight loss, as little as 10 lb..how can a specialist not have heard of this? It is when the eustachian tube stays open instead of closed.
Sorry to ramble. It seems that hearing problems that aren't life threatening don't seem to get any attention. I can't find any treatment or hope to rid myself of this problem.I dn't know if I call the guy back or what?.any suggestions or where else to search? for T.Head, ask lots of questions when you go the the ENT and I would surf the web a lot first..I wish I had info on PET before I went..then again, I went to him for HIM to diagnose me.
