Re: Ear ringing
Feb 19, 2005
Ear ringing can be caused by many things: infection, sudden trauma, tumor (as one poster mentioned), exposure to a sudden loud noise (like a gunshot) long term noise exposure, certain drugs..... But sometimes ear noises ( ringing, hissing, roaring, buzzing) have no cause and remain a mystery. Sometimes it is temporary, sometimes not. Sometimes it's associated with hearing loss or a vestibular disorder. It can be intermittent or constant.

I have ringing in my right ear. It used to be like a high pitched "ping" that would ping in and fade out constantly, all day and night. Now it's a constant high pitched ringing. Some days seem worse than others and no doctor ever found a cause in my case. (I have no hearing loss). I live with it and am fortunate that it's not so loud that it consumes my life.

Do a search on the disorder: tinnitus.
