Hearing Disorders Board Index

I have a 40% hearing loss in my left ear due to nerve damage. I honestly don't remember what caused it because I was just a kid at the time. I mean i'll be able to survive but it is rather annoying not being able to hear things as good as most people. I hear nerve damage can't be repaired though.

Is there any hope at all?
Do either of you wear hearing aids? are correct! Nerve damage cannot be repaired.

My daughter began losing her hearing when she wasn't quite 6 years old. It started out mild, but we knew that it was bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Within the first year and a half, it progressed from a mild loss to a severe loss. Now, at the age of 12, she is borderline severe/profound (but more on the profound side). I have had her to every specialist known to man to first of all try to figure out why this happened to her. She didn't have any injuries or illnesses, so there was no explanation. It just happened. None of the doctors could figure it out either. So, we gave up on finding reasons.

My daughter does wear hearing aids, which help her tremendously. She is a candidate for cochlear implants, but we're not ready to make that decision yet for her.

So either of those (hearings aids or cochlear implants) are the only options that I know of..........and neither of them are a "fix".
