Hearing Disorders Message Board

Hearing Disorders Board Index

Hello Everyone. Hope you are having a great day.

I'm not new to the boards, but am posting for the first time in this section. I hope to get some kind of ideas here.

I've had tinitis predominantly in my right ear for as long as I can remember. It comes and goes frequently, and over the past several years, it seems to happen in my left ear as well, but less frequently. My tinitis is a fairly high pitched "ringing" it is more noticable when things around me are quiet, and will drive me batty at night when I'm trying to get to sleep. I've learned to deal with it though.

My main question is about something else that happens, and I've searched the boards, but didn't see anything close, so I have to ask.

Since I was about 16 years old (and several days after my very first migraine headache) I intermitantly have a very wierd hearing issue in my right ear. All of the sudden, every sound around me- people talking, phone ringing, radio, television-any audible noise sounds mechanical and metallic in my right ear. It's almost hard to put into words actually, but it seriously sounds like every sound I hear is mechanical/metallic sounding- almost like electronically created sounds you hear on video games or some Sci-Fi type of movie.

It has been happening more frequently in the past couple of years. It has happened in my left ear maybe a handful of times over the years, and about three times has happened in both ears at the same time. But again, is usually only in the right ear.

Sometimes it will last for an hour, sometimes all day long. Does anyone else experience anything like this? I know I need to see an ENT about it for something concrete, but I am really curious if anyone can relate, or has any information.

Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance for any input. :)
