My Stapedectomy
Jul 20, 2010
Before having my stapedectomy done yesterday (7-19-10) I did a lot of research online to see what I could find. It was very helpful for me to see what others had experienced good and bad. So I decided to join and share my experience in hopes that it will help others trying to decide what to do.

I have always been and expect the worst, hope for the best type of person. This seems to work for me either because I am an extremely lucky person or very blessed. I supsect it is a little of both as I am rarely dissapointed. :)

So I am on day two still about an hour and a half away from 24 hours. I had my left ear done which was my worst. I don't know when I will have the right one done yet. I am hoping to have it done before the end of the year.

I have been one of the lucky ones so far. I have had no real problems like some I have read. My surgery was scheduled for 11:30 and I was out by 3:30. I was pretty groggy during post-op and had some mild tolerable pain. I did get some meds which was good because before the they kicked in the pain did get worse for about 5 min. Since coming home my wife has helped me keep my meds on schedule every 4.5 hours. I have had some blood drainage which started last night after eating something. Called to verify with the doctor that was normal. I have not had any symptons of dizzyness, virtigo, nausea.

With the packing in my ear I don't hear any better yet. It's been a little difficult to sleep  as I hear cracking and popping in my ear as well as the thumping of my heartbeat.

I have taken the week off from work and will post more as my experience continues.
