... Ok thanks for the reply...and also about at what point in your recovery did the popping start happening? I've only experienced that one time and never again after that... (19 replies)
... Hello Cameron--Yes, like changing altitude/elevation type of popping. My ear would feel like it wanted to pop, and would pop, frequently, sometimes with no change in altitude, and definitely many times with change in altitude. I live in the mountains and so am up and down in altitude/elevation a lot. The popping was a lot more frequent in my operated ear than in my other... (19 replies)
... Hi Diane 132, what is this popping sensation you are talking about. I'm a little earlier in the recovery process than you are so I'm curious as to what this actually feels like. I remember I took a recent road trip to Syracuse and my left ear 'popped' or opened up as I like to describe it due to going up the different altitudes on the way. I still remember the hearing from the... (19 replies)

... Replying to FeelingNervous and Hariiom and to any others reading this. Thank you, FeelingNervous, for your ideas and replies. They helped me and I am sure many others. My recovery took longer than I expected. More than two months before I was hearing better in my left/operated ear, and I would say I got a little improvement even over the next couple months, too. The... (19 replies)
... I am now on meclizine instead of Valium. Dr said this is unusual but will take time. My hearing is much better although very loud. No pain in ear. No improvement with new med. I have spent about 90% of my time on bed reading, watching tv, playing on laptop. One reason that I am getting so freaked out is that my daughter is due with her first baby in a few weeks. Her... ... I didn't hear anything for the first month or so after surgery... then I started hearing some sounds, but couldn't wear my hearing aid because if voices were loud enough for me to actually hear, it sounded very distorted. I just started wearing my hearing aid again about a month ago, after that distortion started clearing up. My results are not typical though... Your... (19 replies)
... Hey hii thanks for the reply.....yes thats what I am hearing in my operated ear like donald duck sound...when did u start hearing that? Did it take 8 months to come to normal? (19 replies)
... Hi Hariiom, You probably still have a lot of swelling within the ear canal. It's still early yet to be too concerned, I think. Your surgeon will be able to give you more information about the success of your surgery after your hearing test. Some people recover more quickly than others. When I started hearing some noise again in my operated ear, voices sounded like... (19 replies)
... Hi, I had my surgery on 8th september 2014 so today is 8th day . my packing removed yesterday since i was complaining lot of dizziness.. Now dizziness is much better...very mild. My only concern are when packing removed i didnot expect any change in sound as i at the first day of surgery. Plus now my operated ear is so sensitive to loud noise but for low frequency no change... (19 replies)
... I appreciate your response, thank you. I am wearing an earplug any time the noise will be too loud,(spin class, movie theater etc.) and it has helped. The surging did eventually go away within a few weeks as I hope your ringing will. It has seemed that each time something stops, another thing starts, so I'm no longer panicking. I'm pretty sure it's all (strangely) normal. Every... (19 replies)
... Hi Kdawne, Just wondering if the surging in your ear got better. I'm about 50 days post op and still have a ringing in my ear and get light headed very easy. Taste buds are none existent, but the metallic taste has gone away. I guess I'm just wanting reassurance that with time all these symptoms will go away and the surgery will have been worth while. The Dr. did not... (19 replies)
... It is scary reading about the surgery. As you probably know from this message board, you are not the only one with bad outcome. Thanks for your reply, and I hope for the best outcome possible for you. Diane (19 replies)
... Hi Diane, I want to stress to you that my results were NOT typical for this procedure. My surgery was not successful. My hearing is now worse than it was before, and I've developed a multitude of side effects, both from the post-op medications that I took (Prednisone and Ciprodex) and from the surgery itself. I've just learned that I have also developed a pituitary... (19 replies)
... h both ears. And again there was a pitch difference between both ears. QUite worrisome for me, since music was a central reason for the surgery. I am thrilled to report all of this has resolved. ... (39 replies)
... Day 13 Post-Op Just got home from follow up with my surgeon. Packing was removed and canal vacuumed out (which was NOT pleasant at all!). Tuning fork test didn't go well, so surgeon had audiologist do a hearing test. It seems that my sensorineural loss is now worse than before surgery. He's given me a prescription for antibiotics (Clavulan) and steroids (Prednisone) and... (19 replies)
... Holy crap, I didn't realize how long my first post was! Sorry about that! :) Day 10 Update: Today feels like a major breakthrough for me... Despite the reaction I had to the steroid drops, I think they've made an incredible difference, even with just 2 doses. The pain in my ear is minimal today... really just feeling uncomfortable, with the odd shooting pain here and... (19 replies)
... I am glad your surgery went well. I guess it depends from the surgeons skills and where's the problem in the ear. 30db improvment is pretty good result. Do you maybe know is it possible to see ossicular chain condition from an MR image before i make the decision to do the surgery. (19 replies)
... Can u tell what were your preop and post op air and bone conductive(in db) thresholds ? I have bone conductive hearing loss on right ear due to translocation or fraction of the stapes. So its not otosclerosis but air bone gap is pretty big, about 35db with sensoneural hearing being normal and bone conductive threshold at 10db vs 45db with air conductive hearing. I am... ... Would you recommend Dr. Berenholz to someone else that was considering having ear surgery? What is the Lippy Clinic? My family and I live in Columbus, Ohio. Where is Warren? Isn't it down close to Cincinnati? Is this where the Lippy Clinic is? I made a post a few weeks ago wanting a recommendation to a good surgeon but I haven't received one reply. I hadn't come across your... (19 replies)
