A bata blocker slows the heart rate down and dilates the blood vessels to reduce blood pressure.

Lack of potassium as well as magnesium can readily cause heart irregularities and should be checked by a Doctor.

Magnesium is more efective if taken in divided doses -- like 3 times daily instead of one daily. Absorption is inceased from about 10 to 14 % to 35 to 40%. It is in every cell of the human body and about 50% is in the bones -- only about 1% is in the blood.
Most supplements will work but I think the best is the Chelated type that is bonded to a protein amino acid. It's small and gets thru the intestinal wall better. Glyinate and lycinate are both very good and aspartate & oratates are also. They are sold by Doctor's Best, Solgar, Carlson, Kal and other companies.

As you may know magnesium is in many laxatives but in larger doses. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide), Magnesia Citrate ( in the green bottle) , Epson Salts (magnesium sulphate)-- all are Osmotic type of laxatives that draw water from the blood vessels into your colon and produce watery type BMs. They are pretty safe for occational use.

I wish you well---Harry
