Hi Avalon,
Well....you do have a decision to make. My hubby had hcv for approx 25+ years and was at early stage cirrhosis. After 30 years, stage 1 fibrosis is minimal and no liver inflammation is excellent. You would have to go thru stage 2 and 3 fibrosis..to get to cirrhosis. Stage 4 is considered cirrhosis. I would get a second opinion on tx. Talk about quality of life versus quantity. Ask how long it would take to progress from stage 1 to stage 4. Ask how far out the clinical trials of other treatments are and when they'll be approved. There are heppers out there whose disease never progresses. The thing is...they can't tell who will and who won't progress...but 30 years and only stage 1 Fibrosis is great news for you. Are you sure on this time frame? You are one of the fortunate ones who has time to wait for a less toxic treatment. For a 2b geno tx would probably be only 6 months. I don't envy the decision you have to make. I am sure you would like to be rid of this beastly virus...but at the same time...it's nasty treatment. Keep us posted...I wish you the best!!!
