Hi everyone, some of you have read my posts and replies to post and most probably do not know me at all. Background - liver transplant survivior for 21 months now. Lost liver to Hep C, by the time I knew anything was wrong I had already progressed to Stage 4 of liver failure with massive amounts of cirrohsis. I have been doing well with my new liver but that old Hep C won't leave me alone. For some reason it really works very rapidly on my liver, including my new liver. I had tried the peg-inteferon/ribavirin treatment 3 months post transplant. I was still not in the greatest health but my Dr. wanted to try it and I was game. Lasted 10 weeks I think it was before my lack of red blood cells and drastically low hemoglobin caused me to stop. To make a long story short, a 4/08 biopsy showed my liver inflarmed and some fibrosis. Saw my transplant follow up Dr. again in 08/08 and he said that I am much healthier now than last try at the treatment. Nothing else to try to tame the Hep C and wanted to know if I was game to try the treatment again. For reasons I will not try to explain, I said heck yes or something like that anyway. All I need from my brothers and sisters out here who know what this is all about is just some prayers and some good thoughts as I undertake this treatment again and some hope that I can last the duration and it will work. I do my best to maintain a positive attitude and to realize that I am actually a very lucky person just to have gotten a donor liver.
