... Keep breathing and hang in there. I am pro-anti-herpes-stigma. I fully believe that there is nobody walking around who asked for herpes or who enjoys having it, just like people who have diabetes, tuberculosis and autism didn't ask for their condition. I try to be pretty non-chalant about it in many situations -- just doing my part to help remove the stigma. We are normal... (36 replies)

... I have to agree with red0916(sorry if the numbers are wrong) I recently found out that I had contracted it. It scares me and I don't know if my life will ever be normal again! But it does give me hope to read all this stuff! (36 replies)

... I've been on Valtrex for about two weeks or so now, and other than some initial dizziness (which I'm prone to anyway) I haven't really had a problem with the drug. I think everybody's body is different and the only way to know how you'll react is to give it a try. Good luck! red0916 (4 replies)
... Sorry you're having such a rough time. I've had a rough time throughout my life because of STD's. They thought I had PID at one point, but that's a bacterial infection as far as I understood it, and I thought flagyl is for fungal infections (been on that too). PID can be serious, and can cause fever and internal damage if it goes untreated. I have another condition that I... (2 replies)
... It figures! I happen to have an inner ear disorder, with dizziness and vertigo attacks as my main symptoms. I guess I'll just have to see if the dizziness gets worse, and if it does give my body a few days to adjust. I just took my second pill, and I do feel a little dizzy, but that could be normal for me. Thanks for the info. Red0916 (7 replies)
... Janedoe, Got my Valtrext today, and took my first pill tonight. I feel a little dizzy, but that could just be the residual effects of the partying from last night. lol. I'll let you know how it goes. Anyone out there have side effects from Valtrex? red0916 (7 replies)

... Thanks 1 in 4, I had a feeling that being on Valtrex for the first year seemed to make sense to give my body the best chance it could have to fight this thing and possibly minimize future outbreaks. What you said kind of confirms that for me, and makes me feel better about taking this medicine everyday. I just hope the prescription gets here soon! red0916 (8 replies)

... Colbe, When I asked my doctor if Valtrex is appropriate for type 1 he gave me an honest answer, which was "I don't know- let me check." He then called a colleague of his whom he claimed had more experience in dealing with herpes, and this doctor told him that the answer was absolutely yes, that it is helpful for both types 1 and 2. I can only hope and assume that they are... (8 replies)

... Devastated, I too have type 1- first outbreak on genitals, nipples and lip. I'm about to start Valtrex (as soon as it comes in the mail). Have you had any side effects from it? Red0916 (8 replies)
... Janedoe, I actually haven't started yet because I'm on a prescription plan where I have to get my meds through the mail. The prescription is in, and I'm just waiting to get them. Hopefully they will get here soon!!! Red0916 (7 replies)
Anal OBs

... I tried posting this reply already, but I don't know if it went through due to technical difficulties, so I'll tyr again. What I wrote was that I'm a newbie myself, so I don't have a lot of answers for you, but I was just diagnosed for with type 1 genitally, on the lip, and on both nipples. My doctor and I agreed that I will go on once a day Valtrex to hopefully lessen the... (2 replies)
... It's so true that "safe sex" methods don't take herpes into account a whole lot. The whole concept of "safe sex" really took hold when HIV/AIDS came in and the condom as the cornerstone of the safe sex strategy is about preventing the mixing of body fluids. However, most people don't realise that herpes has nothing to do with body fluids, per se, but with skin-to-skin... (11 replies)
... Yes, I believe so. Someone I know who had type 1 orally was prescribed Valtrex to deal with OBs. Good luck with the doc! 1in4 (4 replies)

... One quick question- is Valtrex appropriate for both type 1 and type 2 gential herpses? Thanks! red0916 (4 replies)
... Thanks guys for the advice. I'm seeing the doctor Friday for a followup visit, and I'm going to ask to be put on Valtrex. I'll bring the article along just in case he says no! red0916 (4 replies)

... It's me again. Now I'm just praying that I have type 1 genitally since I've read that type 1 down there tends to reoccur less! red0916 (2 replies)

... I just read a really good article about the differences between type 1 and 2. I also wanted to ask, how do I find out which type I have? From what I've read it sounds like the swab test won't tell you- but do I need to wait a certain amount of time to produce antibodies before I can take a blood test that will tell me? Thanks red0916 (2 replies)
... Yes- I couldn't believe the price on the Abreeva- but I figured if it works it's worth it, and if not I just won't buy it again. Is it really true that type ! tends to reoccur less? There's so much mix info out there that it's hard to know what to believe. I don't need bandaids on my nipples, but I definitely can't wear a bra, and only loose tops until this goes away. It's...
