Re: Hip bursitis
Jul 4, 2016
I have had bursitis in my hip for several years. First the right side and new the left. I had physical therapy and it helped for about 6 months. I also had three acupuncture treatments and they are doing nothing. I'm about ready to have a cortisone shots. Has anyone had success with these and how painful in the hip are they?
I was first diagnosed with bursitis in my hip 3 years ago. I had a cortisone shot which did nothing. Over the years, the pain came and went depending on the types of activities I engaged in (walking any distance more than a few blocks would induce pain). Then I decided to go to another ortho who said I had tendenopathy of the gluteus medius and some hip bursitis. I started physical therapy and foam rolling. The foam rolling made it worse, so I stopped that and the PT didn't really heal anything. So then I finally did a cortisone shot which helped tremendously. I walked 8 miles a day in London for 8 days straight with no pain. But when I got back and started PT again, the pain came back even worse. So, to make a long story short, I would not do the shot again unless I had some type of travel event that requires a great deal of walking in the future. In the meantime, I am still in pain and starting up my PT again hoping to fix this issue finally.
